News New season 3 teaser

Well the initial appeal is basically to sort of see the trek universe and what it will look like as if it was put in a blender and everything has now come out looking and feeling different. Aliens no longer have to have the same values or traditions. You can have emotional Vulcans or Klingon ballerina's. Who knows what has changed after so long of time. Also the mystery of what happened to the Federation can play as mystery while also serving as a goal in terms of something that needs to be brought back though in that case they are going into Andromeda territory.

I hope that is enough appeal to bring them in to enjoy it.

Personally, and I know this is crazy, but I didn't need the far flung future to have Vulcans and Klingons do different things.

According to Wilson Cruz and Anthony Rapp, post production is indeed being done by the folks at home, though it is going at a slower rate than normal.
I don't get that, I am pandemic working from home and the pace has only picked up. And it was never an idle stroll pre-pandemic. The hours are longer too....

It's like watching Buffy and being mad that Buffy gets all the attention, or Smallville and wishing Clark Kent didn't solve everything:shrug:

While I agree with everything you've written, I think the difference is people liked Buffy Summers, they hurt for her when she was in pain and would follow her to the apocalypse.

Right wrong or indifferent people don't like Burnham in the same way unfortunately. I don't think the character is relatable or vulnerable enough for the audience to bond with her.

And? From one gay man to another, being gay doesn't stop people from being bigoted. Nor does it stop people from cowardly using their sexuality as a shield to protect themselves from criticism.
I was literally typing the same comment, when I read your better written and succinctly put response.

So I am changing mine to "what she said."

I have always wanted to have Agony_Boothb's back in a hen fight! Her pict is fabulous

I'm interested in what they do with the new setting because I want to see how it'll be different, but I also want to see Star Trek actually do something with a Roddenberry idea that's existed since the '70s but was never put into use in Star Trek. And they can do something awesome -- or at least what I think is awesome -- now, without someone ruining it by saying "But how does it fit into TOS and TNG and... " And I held my tongue a lot during the first two seasons, believe it or not. For everything I said, there was a lot where I didn't. But now we're in the third season, and out of prequel territory, so we don't have to hear any of that anymore...

... it'll be a whole bunch of new things instead. ;)

I am as excited about this aspect of the show as you. I think they have a lot of room to wow us and I am glad the shackles of Canon are home mostly. What I worry about, however, is the writing staff. I hope Kirsten M.F. Beyer is still in the mix because she is an awesome writer. Michelle paradise, however, makes me nervous. I hope my fears are unnecessary...

We get it....you don't like her. Your post is just silly.........she's looking down and then glances up. Most likely taking direction from a 2nd AD off camera.

No...its relevant. I'm sure she's trying to look resolute. But she looks smug. (Shrug) Not her fault. Its the directors. Start on her eyes, then pull back....then pull back again.

Am I going to have ti be the one to ask what the fuck is up with Tilly??? Cowards.

I'll put it nicely. Are they having her do a 'Lee Adama stress eat arc'? This was the woman who won a marathon a year ago show timewise."

She's standing with her legs astride while wearing what amounts to a burlap bag, on a low resolution promo picture. Those baggy post-apocalyptic rags shouldn't be flattering on anyone.

I considered that. Which led to the thought that Mary Wiseman should sue someone.

I heard they added a non binary character, was the name published somewhere? Is she a Dax?
It was from a casting sheet ages ago. The name was definitely on there, but if it's anything like the Picard casting sheet, the name is a fake or placeholder.

Don't think the character has Trill spots so I doubt it. There were rumours Nicole De Boer (Ezri Dax) filmed a cameo/flashback scene ao maybe Dax does show up in some later incarnation.

They won't make the non-binary character a alien since that would be seen as cheating or false representation. Not that I don't think Dax and the Trill will also be in the season and maybe even a big part of it. In away they are kind of like maybe the gatekeepers of all the knowledge of what once was with being able to have memories of lives back before the fall. Something even the long lived Vulcans couldn't have. In theory though you would thing their is some El=Aurians and other long lived species that might also work. The Denoboluns are also I think very long lived and if one showed up it would be the first time we see that species outside of Enterprise. The Changlings as well but it's kind of sad to think our chance of a Odo appearance can't happen. Plus don't forget Androids. The key to saving everything might revolve around finding Picard!

Those shows were set in worlds where they were unique superpowered people in an ordinary world which is very different

Translation: "But that's different!"

My response: No it's not. Every series favors the protagonist. Every story favors the protagonist. It's been that way for thousands of years. You think that's going to stop just because of Discovery and because you don't like Burnham? No. The tides don't stop just because you say, "But! But! But! I don't like this character!!!"

It doesnt have to stop and Im not expecting it to but I wont like it till it does and they are different because they are different shows set in different worlds.

I don't really know anything on the matter, but I can only guess that post-production work on a TV show typically involves a lot of teamwork, multiple people sitting around discussing things, what have you. And although all this is still possible in a home environment, what with e-mail, skype, whatever, not having everyone on site contributing might slow things down enough to make a difference.

I agree Burnham isn't going anywhere at this point but shows have replaced regulars before so it's not a given she will always be the star. I mean if she left now you can always bring another lead. Everthing from Stargate to even X-Files have done it before. Not always to equal success but sometimes you get improvements like in Babylon 5. The thing I wish they would do at this point is just improve the writing for the character and make the show more of a ensemble. You can hide bad acting like Seinfeld did with Jerry Seinfeld. Especially since she isn't even all that bad. She just not really Series Lead level great.

I think what she really needs is a character who is treated by the writers as her equal. In essence a co-lead type of situation like Mulder and Scully. Give her someone who is the very opposite of her in terms of personality. She is cold and unemotional on the outside but is suppose to have this great wealth of emotion on the inside. That's what they are basically going for right now but none of the other characters really help showcase that because they are underused and have no chemistry with her. Plus her monologue speeches which are just awful and don't really have anything deep to say. Pure high school level poetry level stuff.

What I wish instead of them being afraid that any real challenge to the character will make her look weak they would bring in someone who truly does challenge her and is her equal in every way. Preferably a male so their perspectives lives have even more differences. She is a strong smart female without a sense of humor. He is a casual guy with tons of charm with a witty sense of humor. They both are good at fighting and science and both have the same goal of Bringing Back the Federation. As I typed this I noticed I sort of channeled the dynamic of John Crighton and Aeryoun Sun and Wonder Woman and Chris Pine but the reason why this archetype shows up so much is because it works. Shows focused mostly around one characters only work if your talking about great and compelling stars.
