New Phaser and Rifle Revealed

Wow! These latest pictures look awesome! The amazing thing here is that they look even better in these still photos with normal lighting than they looked in the promotional videos. That's hard to do. Typically, props don't look as good in still images in normal lighting without any special presentation. I'm very, very impressed!

The forward grip folds up when not in use, extendable stock, probably both actually functional in use within the episode. That's a level of realism a lot of props don't get in Trek.

They look like crap for the era they are trying to represent. It's like they want to do a prequel/parallelquel but just can't commit.

In my head-canon, the universe of TOS was "actually" a lot more detailed, and of course realistic, than what we saw as depicted in the show. In those days, a lot of TV was still highly influenced by stage plays, as early dramatic television productions were basically telecast plays. Nobody expects hyper-realism from a stage production. Instead, a lot of visuals are stylized and somewhat abstract renderings of what they represent. You have to approach TOS with that kind of mindset.

ST-DSC is an opportunity to finally present the details.

This is how I see it, as far as DSC will be. It was what Karl Urban said about the movies, that it was as if you took TOS and fine tuned it into HD.

This is Star Trek's chance, with this amazing age of television, to show everyone the imagination that it always had and be able to show it a lot better.

At some point, every thread turns into an "Is Starfleet military?" debate. Apparently it's the one constant in the universe.

How should a 24th century-era phaser pistol and rifle be represented?

Edit for correction: 23rd century [Thanks, Jesse]

This thing is gorgeous.
It looks like the TOS prop painted black and with the antenna snapped off. It's like one of those fan updates for the TOS Enterprise where they just add a few more tiny details.

Why would they keep the Fed props so much the same as the 1960's show but change everything else?:wtf:
