Game New game: Star Trek Infinite

Meh… it looks interesting anyway. Never played Stellaris, so I have no a-priori expectations. I’ll give it a day in court.

New trailer out, and we have a release date with price. October 12th, and it's $30 USD for a base edition, and $40 for a deluxe edition. The Deluxe edition bonuses are just the soundtrack, art book and a music DLC.

There's a preorder bonus, same for both editions, comes with a California Class, Lower Decks uniforms and a Klingon Voice Over Pack.

Whew! This game is going to be competing for my time between Starfield (when I get it soon), STO and Fortnite. There simply aren't enough hours in the day...

Ohh. Some story mechanic spoilers

"What's encouraging about these narrative systems is that it doesn't seem like you're simply playing out a single-track victory condition for each faction. The Mission Tree branches, and you'll make meaningful decisions within it. Do you embrace the Cardassians' fascist nature, or redeem them and free their enslaved peoples? As the Romulans, do you accept Federation aid when the star by Romulus collapses, or give in to your people's overweening pride and face the consequences? There are only a couple of these for each faction, but they feel like they add meaningful differences to their respective playthroughs."

And more

"There are some cool events that can manifest in canonical ways and otherwise, however; the Romulan supernova will always occur at a specific time during a playthrough, and having Spock on the team opens up a potential event route for the UFP, though he could just as easily be dead by that point, or never conscripted in the first place."

It looks interesting, but it seems like it is gonna be kind of weird like BotF was with the ships. It seems to start and focus on the AQ, as well as the start of the Federation from what I can see but the focus is gonna be TNG?

it starts in the 2340s yeah.

It's a Real time 4X style game. Look up gameplay of the game 'Stellaris', which this is built off of.

Stellaris is one of my favourite all time games. I'm just wondering how this will work. Will you start with all the powers with set territories rather than recruiting and building the Federation?

Not just a trailer breakdown, but some Q&A that was done on the Official Discord.

They seem to be using non-canon stuff when needed. For example the starting president of the UFP is T'Pragh, who was mentioned in 'Articles of the Federation'

Wargamer.com posted a short interview with one of the producers at Paradox. The strangest thing is that the producer goes out of his way to say "if you are not a Star Trek fan to begin with and you’re just like ‘I like strategy games’ this might not be the game for you." Even if that's true why would you say that and discourage sales??

Another thing of note here is that they confirm what we've already kind of known which is that TNG is the main anchor for the game's aesthetics but that the game also features content from all Star Trek "from the original series to Lower Decks". In fact you can already see the LD style uniform on the avatar of the CM who posted the dev diary. Kind of funny there are people in that dev diary thread saying "thank God there's no nu-trek here!" when there's a Stellaris pop in an LD uniform staring them in the face.

Probably depends on one’s definition of “nu-trek”. Not too long ago that unequivocally implied towards the Abramsverse. If that still applies here, then that might still be a true statement.

Context is king.

On the official discord server it's been confirmed that the game starts in 2346, a few months before the Khitomer Massacre.

Though weird that some of those previews show dates before 2346, maybe they only recently narrowed down the start date.

There are some alternate history paths outside of the ones we've seen so far.
One of the Paradox reps implied you can choose not to blame the House of Mogh for the attack when the fake evidence is discovered. Not sure what kind of effects that would have.

I wonder if that is like Stellaris, in that the major events starts from a roughly preset point in the playthrough, but you start the game with a single planet and explore/colonize/conquor your local space prior to those events starting (mid-game crisis like the Great Khan's Empire rising, or the L-Gate events). With Romulas and the Borg being late game events (like the End Game Crisis).

You start with a handful of planets and systems. It's more story based that Stellaris.
