Don't lump us all in together, please. I'm a post-2005 fan and I think he's brilliant.*(Now time for all the younger, post-2005 fans on the internet to piss and bitch and moan that the new actor is "Ewww!!! Too old!!!")
We can but hope, but this choice of actor won't help. It's foreseeable that they'll want to see who this new man playing their hero is, and it follows that some will then be exposed to some foul language.More wilfull missing of the point. I'm on about the children. I wouldn't want 6 year olds hearing violent swearing when they try and find out more about the new Doctor Who, and that's undoubtedly what they'll come across. Why is this simple and reasonable point (unless people think it's fine for children to hear "fuck" and "cunt") so difficult for people to grasp?
I very much doubt many 6 year olds will have watched The Thick of It. Or be allowed to play on Youtube unsupervised to do their own research. Cos, y'know, they're six.
Again, just after the announcement was made, a second, older, rather nasty, anti-Semitic Twitter feed using Capaldi's name was abruptly deleted. I don't know what the case is: Maybe it's not the real Peter Capaldi, and someone at the Beeb found it and asked for its deletion so as not to besmirch the actor. I hope that's the case so I'll reserve judgement, but the timing has me a mite curious.
Are you wilfully missing the point? It's not that it's one of many roles, it's that it's the single thing almost everyone knows Capaldi for. Look at what's trending on Twitter now. Peter Capaldi, Malcolm Tucker and The Thick of It. A lot of people probably just thought "Oh look, Malcolm Tucker's the Doctor". And the issue is whether it's wise to have the lead in a family show watched by many, many children played by someone known almost exclusively for saying fuck and cunt.Oh my god Mary Whitehouse was right! - John Hurt was in Caligula! plus a film where he played a practing homosexualist - We must close the internet immediately for the sake of the children.
No one is missing the point; it's just not one worth taking seriously.
I can only imagine Ghost Bones' reaction when James Gandolfini appeared on Sesame Street. I hear the children of America are to this day still traumatized.

What are 6 year olds doing running loose on the internet by themselves? There's much bigger danger out there on the internet, that the parents should be monitoring/preventing, that would naturally take care of this issue
The "unofficial" Capaldi Twitter account says the other one is "not his account."Again, just after the announcement was made, a second, older, rather nasty, anti-Semitic Twitter feed using Capaldi's name was abruptly deleted. Was it a verified account (with a blue okay sign)? Anyone can register any account name on Twitter. In fact, there are many parody accounts and also people maintaining accounts on someone else's behalf.

So if you reproduced a child, you'd be perfectly comfortable for me to go up to it and yell "I'm sweating embryoes, you eff star star cunt! Kiss my sweaty ballsack! You're about as much use as a marsipan dildo, you big fucking prick! I call it custard cancer!" Or rather, for them to witness such a conversation.
I wish I could get spoiler tags to work (I triedand [spoilers], but no good, any advice?) - because, based on what we learned in the last finale, I have some speculation on what kind of Doctor that I think he *may* play - and why I think they went with THIS particular actor. Just to say that they may have wanted somebody to play a wider range of personalities...
^ Yeah, there's no way that's him. It's brand new, with only two tweets, and it's too obviously trying to be shocking. It's a fake account.

Because it's not a simple and reasonable point?
- Children that age have most likely heard those words and more from their schoolmates and friends.
- It's shitty parenting if you allow a six-year-old unrestricted access to the internet.
- It's shitty parenting if, once discovered, you can't explain to your child the concept of how actors work in different roles and genres.
- How is swearing in and of itself, absent of context, "violent"?
- The kids will hear the words, possibly repeat them for a while, and then they'll move on. It won't traumatize them.
- What friggin' six year old is looking up the acting history of the new Doctor on IMDb and YouTube?
This couldn't be more of a non-issue if you tried.

"So if you reproduced a child..." Who talks like that? I guess people who don't understand the difference between a child being told curse words by friends at school or overhearing/reading them and being screamed at by some crazed nutjob.

ETA: Sorry Neroon, I was typing this up before you posted.
Count me in as one of the whovians who didn't really care what gender or ethnicity the new Doctor might be, so long as whoever it is brings something wonderful to the role!![]()
Yet a popular character like the Doctor is more important than my own enjoyment of it, so casting people so that everyone who watches the show can easily see themselves as the Doctor should also been taken in mind, especially when, as you say, it does not have a negative impact on our enjoyment of it.
It is heavily implied that during the run between the Wedding of River Song and TNOTD that the Doctor had a full marital relationship with River, albeit not spelled out on screen.
That said, I don't think that can be classed as shagging about, she was his wife.
So people stop having sex after 50. Good to know. Not sure why that would stop him from having sex. Not that he has been known to have sex with anyone.
Not sure that makes any sense as a reply to my post?
I'm ecstatic Capaldi has been cast, I'd prefer if he didn't have another relationship as it would dilute what he had with River a bit, but nothing to do with his age.
