MLB Offseason 2011

^ I never paid attention to what abbreviations they used during games, since I never watched them. Airport? Never been there.

Man, I remember back in 2002 or so, during the last MLB labor talks, when the whole idea was cost certainty and bringing player salaries under control.

And now motherfucking Mark Ellis is somehow worth $4.5 million on the same team as $4 million for Juan Rivera. :guffaw:

Man, Ned Colletti really is insane.

Aramis Ramirez done with Cubs

Can't say I'm disappointed about this. Aramis was a great hitter & 3rd baseman for a long time. We haven't had a long term 3B like that for decades.

The last several years though, he has been injury prone and his production has dropped off.

Lots of reasons not to give the guy a 3-4 year contract at 33. Plus the potential rebuilding coming up.

The Astros are likely to move to the AL West in 2013, which means every division will consist of 5 teams. That also makes 15 teams in each league, which would require interleague play all season long.

San Diego signs Mark Kotsay for $1.25 million.

You know, I wish I were a terrible veteran baseball player.

I have no idea what San Diego wants with a guy who plays awful outfield defense, OPSed .700, and is moving to fucking Petco.

I'm left-handed, in my early 30's, and have a pulse. I could make 3x that as a reliever who faces one guy in the 7th if I had a little more gas on my fastball.

Also, sorry to go all Mr. Laser Beam on you guys. But I'm so glad the Mets ditched the black today. Those drop shadows were a total mess.

Terry Francona has withdrawn from consideration for the Cubs job, which leaves Sveum, Pete Mackanin, Alomar, Maddux and DeMarlo Hale as the contenders.

Also, the Marlins' offer to Pujols is 9/235. Who in their right mind gives him nine years?

Kirk Gibson wins the NL Manager of the Year!

No brainer, really. I don't see how anyone else stood a chance given the Diamondback's turnaround this year.

Someone whose brain is MIA.

So Francona took a look at the Cubs saw he couldnt win anytime soon and said thanks but no thanks. No team left on the field, nothing left in the farm system, a ballpark that needs a wrecking ball and an owner that has no money. Sounds like an attractive job there. This whole search for a manager by the Cubs is such a joke.

I never had the impression he was seriously "under consideration" for the Cubs job.

It always sounded like he was just assumed so because of his history with Epstein.

It always sounded like he was just assumed so because of his history with Epstein.

He had multiple conversations with Epstein about it, and a formal phone interview on Sunday, but he later decided that he wasn't going to manage anywhere in 2012.

In other news, Dale Sveum has been offered the Cubs job, but he's expected to wait for an offer from Boston (which has also interviewed him twice) before deciding.

Tito was actually fairly good as a broadcaster. I wouldn't be surprised if he went into it full-time.

The first thing he should do after that, of course, is take away AJ Pierzynski's mike.

^ I may be the only Met fan who actually likes the black uniforms. In fact I wish they'd get rid of the gray ones - go with white at home (without pinstripes), black on the road, and that'd be it. I much prefer black to gray.

Yeah, pretty much you are. That look has been wildly panned for 15 years and I am glad they ditched the black and you can actually read the jerseys again. Plus the rationale behind the blue and orange as team and city colors take center stage again.

It'd be like your 'beloved' Yankees coming out wearing a glitzy gold and green spandex suits, replace the interlocking NY logo on the breast with a dollar $ign.

Dale Sveum has accepted the Cubs' offer.

In other news, we're looking at two more wild card teams beginning in 2013. :barf:

That's the only redeeming thing about baseball these days, you actually needs to be reasonably good to make the playoffs. Fuck that.
