^ I hear that Steve Garvey is up for buying the team. He seems to have some good ideas.

Oh, and I'm not a Dodger fan by any means, but...

Garvey and Hershisher formed a group last year to buy the team, yes. Besides Cuban, who's been interested in the team for ages, those are the only names in play right now -- which makes sense, as $1+ billion doesn't just appear overnight. Right now, since McCourt just announced last night that he would sell, there are probably several groups and corporations determining feasibility (and also looking at the possibility of the team going to auction).

I'd love to see Cuban in control of the Dodgers, but after the way he got involved in the Rangers clusterfuck last year and completely boned Nolan Ryan & Co., I have to imagine that MLB would rather have Hitler's reanimated corpse owning a team before Cuban.

Not unexpected, but also not entirely deserved. With a team full of malcontents and jackasses, 71 wins was probably a miracle. At the end of the day, though, I can't blame Theo and Hoyer for not wanting a mediocre at best, third-base coach turned manager to run their team.

Tulo's the best thing the Rockies have going for them right now.

Cuban's been wanting to buy into baseball for a long time. Didn't he at least think about taking a run at the Cubs a while back?

With the way he's shaken up the NBA, do you really think MLB wants to let him in to sit at the table? It would be worth it just to hear him call Selig an incompetent fool, though.

Not Carlos Gonzalez? That's quite a Duo between Tulo and CarGo, but if you don't want him, I would love to see him back with the A's.

On the Giants end, other than signing a couple pitchers to extensions, they haven't done very much. There's talk about resigning Beltran, which I would like, but I think I even heard something about getting Willingham from the A's. Not sure how I feel about that.

I'll keep CarGo, thanks. I'd give Tulo the edge, based on his defense though.

Even without the NBA baggage, all his fuckery during the Rangers' bankruptcy and auction last year probably guaranteed that he will never, ever be approved to own an MLB team.

That's nice. He'll be just a pinch hitter, but he was a key reason the Phillies went from the bottom of the NL East to where they are today. Great player who brought class to the steroid era.

Actually, word is that they're hoping he can play a significant amount of time at first base.

This is the point where I'd just like to remind everyone that Thome hasn't played first at all since 2007, hasn't played more than 20 innings in the field since 2005 and had his glove repossessed by the White Sox because he was really, really bad there in Philadelphia the last time.

So, in other words, this is going to be an incredibly funny experiment in just how bad a first baseman can actually be in the field.

Yeah, I blocked the last minute of the season from my memory so it did not even occur to me that he would play first base. Probably not a good idea, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Speaking of blocking things from one's memory: The new Marlins uniforms are leaking to the net. And yes, it is every bit as horrible as you might think (especially the orange version). Link

Great, the colors from the new logo are the new uniform colors :ack:

Now I'm going to look for a B&W TV.

Pity that they have such a nice new stadium but at the same time coupled with such utter SHASH that they're calling 'uniforms'.
