MLB Offseason 2011

Yu Darvish is a Texas Ranger. 6 years, $60 million.

The deadline to get a deal done just passed a few minutes ago, so this came down to the wire. I've heard that there are incentives that could bring the total value of the contract up to around $70 million, but I haven't found a legit source to back that up yet.

Rockies signed Jamie Moyer to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training.

God, I hope he makes the roster. I want to see the utter hilarity of a 49-year-old pitching in Coors.

I didn't see his debut, but I remember watching Moyer & Maddux in 1987. So long ago.

I just hope the thin air doesn't get to him.

I love Moyer. He's simply a workhorse and always finds a way to get a quality start. But there's gotta be a point where he can't. I hope that point isn't this year. If he makes the pros, though, I hope he's successful.

V-Mart injures ACL in knee...likely to miss entire 2012 season.

The hilarious part of this is that he was doing side-to-side agility drills ... which isn't exactly a common exercise for designated hitters.

Hey, Detroit, we have this Alfonso Soriano. You can even have Garza.

FUCKING TAKE IT DOMBROWSKI TAKE IT GOD DAMN IT TAKE THE MOTHERFUCKER WHO HAS 54 MILLION LEFT ON HIS CONTRACT AND COULDN'T EVEN BREAK .300 ON-BASE LAST YEAR FUCKING DOOOOOOOOOO IIIIIIIIIIIIIT

Marco Scutaro traded to Rockies. Apparently the Redsox want Roy Oswalt or Cody Ross so they're looking to free up payroll in preparation.

Yep. Just a couple weeks until Pitchers & Catchers report!

Well, I'll be rooting for the Phillies, of course. Although I think the Papelbon signing was stupid.

My family was from Boston, so I don't mind them. It's a weird situation, though. I used to find solidarity in losing between Philly and Boston. Now, neither is true and (unfortunately) they both have their share of bandwagon fans (although the Sox are worse, imo). It'll be a fun season. I still want a Boston-Philly series.

I'm a Giants fan but I can't wait till Pitchers and Catchers report. I really do like this time of year. Spring is coming, the days are getting longer, and Baseball Season is right around the corner. Wish I had this same attitude at the end of the season but I think that boils down to the Baseball season being too long. If they want 162 games, fine, but I would love to see more weekend doubleheaders.

I ... uh ... erm ... well.

That's certainly a contract. (Though, hilariously, Ryan Howard's AAV is still higher than Prince's or Pujols'.) And it's definitely not the worst contract in baseball, which right now is probably a tie between Howard, Alfonso Soriano and Carl Crawford, and will be Pujols' in about four years. The Tigers had better pray that Prince's knees don't explode, Mo Vaughn-style, anytime soon.

Although moving Cabrera to third is going to result in an absolutely hilarious infield defense. Cabrera/Peralta/Raburn/Fielder is pretty much a lock for the worst infield defense of the entire lively ball area. I'll be shocked if he can manage to field .900, especially since he has possibly the worst range in the league. (He was barely serviceable at 3B a while back, and that was 90 pounds ago.) With the range of Roger Dorn and the body of The Babe, Cabrera's going to make Ryan Braun look like Brooks Robinson.

Every single pitcher on the Tigers' staff is probably on their knees praying to every deity imaginable to get the most obscenely lucky season of BABIP in history.

Red Sox/Phillies....I could go for that....:techman:

Re: Where Are All The Red Sox Fans Up In Hurr?

^ Urgh. My two favorite teams' rivals playing against each other? Ah well, at least one of them will lose. :p

srsly though, provided it's not a slugfest, I guess I wouldn't care much.

^ But good news for the Cubs.

No more Pujols & LaRussa and no more Fielder makes for a lot more parity in the NL Central.

The Reds are most likely going to be the team to beat.
