You're also talking to a guy that laments why his daughters aren't dating or even thinks about dating at all.
I am not going to force them to, they are perfectly capable of deciding who and when to date, but except just one of their friends in their immediate circle, none of the girls or the guys are dating.

Have you even bothered to ask them why?
I see that a lot of my younger twenty-thirty something Facebook friends are single but have active social lives. They're always going out in groups to concerts or events.
They're probably more involved online socially than we ever were, with friends scattered all over the globe.
I don't think that they're being pressured into dating, settling down, and getting married.
There's also financial and emotional aspects involved as well. The era of the 'cheap date' is over.

And I should care...why?
You said something, I said something in return.
Whether you care or not, I don't care.
Going for the lowest common denominator of "sex sells" is bullshit.
Tell me you have zero idea how succesful businesses work without telling me you have zero idea about how succesful businesses work.
Create actual good content for people to enjoy not appealing to hormones. Good for depth not skin deep.

People are ridiculous :sigh:
Create actual good content (which they are not) + add a sprinkle of sexiness (which they are not) = great entertainment (which modern ones are not).
I know you don't care but have you seen the gaming graveyard this year?
[*WALKS IN*]

😳 😑

[*WALKS OUT*]
Oh come on, stop being so dramatic!

Probably not as dire as the headline makes it sound…

Still, “Thunderbolts*” needed to make $425 million worldwide to break even, a figure that seems unachievable. Marvel is unique because it isn’t as encumbered as rivals by the profits or losses of single films. The company can recoup some costs through Disney+ and other home entertainment markets, to say nothing of the massive revenue streams from merchandising, theme parks and cruises.

And every film between “Avengers” installments can be viewed as a marketing tool. Case in point: Disney revealed the motley crew of reformed baddies in “Thunderbolts*” will return in “Avengers: Doomsday.” If audiences missed that chapter, they can always catch up on Disney+.

Have you even bothered to ask them why?
Yes. Didn't wanna act like a prying uncle but I did bring it up then and now.
But I've stopped after most answers culminated in "just don't want the hassle" or "its too much".
In turn, every time I get online there is some article or blog post about "the male lonliness epidemic" or "largest number of under 30s aren't having sex at all" "or "women can't find good men to date".
That's why it doesn't make sense to me.
I see that a lot of my younger twenty-thirty something Facebook friends are single but have active social lives. They're always going out in groups to concerts or events.
See that's the thing. I've lamented here before about that - my daughters have a very active social life or whatever passes for it nowadays.
They both doomscroll and go out with friends in equal measures.
But nothing romantic at all.
They're probably more involved online socially than we ever were, with friends scattered all over the globe.
You're right, they are. We hosted a few international friends of theirs over the years.
I don't think that they're being pressured into dating, settling down, and getting married.
Yeah I am not talking about pressure, I am talking about natural interest. Nobody has that now.

There's also financial and emotional aspects involved as well. The era of the 'cheap date' is over.
You're right, maybe I am holding on to something I should learn to let go. :(

Variety has been called out on their Marvel smear pieces, this is no different.

These are powered superhero characters, not Batman or Hawkeye, that they'd need copious amounts of armor.
"Male gaze" is what has kept these IP's alive for decades, whether it's a sexy female character, a buff male character or a beautiful piece of machinery.

No, the female characters would have done just as well without being oversexed and underwritten. Ironically this was one area DC did better than Marvel.

Jesus Fucking Christ you are thick.

Warning for flaming.

What fucking planet do you live on? Must be Incel III...

This, too.

Can we knock it off with the insults? This isn't TNZ.

By whom, and why should we take the "callers" at all seriously? Variety has been one of the cornerstone trade newspapers of the entertainment industry since long decades before Marvel was a gleam in some pulp publisher's beady little eye.

Wandavision

Expected= I didn’t know if it was going to be good at all. The premise seemed odd to me, and not in a good way. I thought that it was going to be a string of episodes parodying old sitcoms.

Result= Exceeded my expectations and really allowed the cast to shine. I was so pleasantly surprised with the scenes set outside of the town and I loved how each episode built upon the previous ones. It is still my favorite MCU show and one of my favorite MCU installments.

Falcon and the Winter Solider

Expected=This was the show I was looking forward to the most as I’m a huge Captain America fan.

Results=I really liked the series overall, but there I thought they dragged out the decision as to who was going to take up the mantel for too long. I would have preferred Sam to take over earlier in the series because I hate this trope in super-hero shows where the character only puts on the costume at the end. I thought the cast was great and I really enjoyed where they took the different stories. Too bad we still haven’t had any follow up to Sharon or Zemo. Oh, wait Zemo is now posing as an artistic film auteur forced to make schlocky super-hero movies.

Loki

Expected=I had no clue what to expect. I didn’t have high hopes for the show though.

Results-Easily exceeded my expectations. I liked that the show diverged from the super-hero formula and finally had a real redemption arc for Loki.

Hawkeye

Epected-I didn’t have high expectation for this show. I thought it was going to be a brooding slog.

Results= I was pleasantly surprised by the slightly more light-hearted nature of the show and I loved the finale. Plus, the musical was a highlight.

She Hulk

Expected-I liked the actress but didn’t know how the MCU was going to pull it off without being silly.

Results= I thought some of the episodes could have been better but overall I liked the series and thought the final episode was brilliant.

MoonKnight

Expected- I really had expectations for this one. Moon Knight is one of my favorite characters. I was expecting the show to be more in the style of the Daredevil series. Low key, street-level, and on the violent and dark side.

Results=After the first couple of episodes when I realized that the whole show was going to be about the split personality, I really thought this was a misstep. It was too hokey. We didn’t need a world ending crisis event and …we finally get to see the character do their thing in the last episode. What a waste of potential this series was.

Ms Marvel

Expected- I was looking forward to it, especially after I’d learned they’d filmed parts overseas.

Results-Mixed. I thought the set up was great. I loved the cast and the characters. I was let down by the need to tell yet another world endangering story. It should have been kept simple and street level.

What If

Expected- I wasn’t really excited by this. It was the first MCU thing that I felt I had to watch.

Results- Better than expected, although I only really enjoyed about half the episodes.

Werewolf by Night
Expected – I had no idea what to expect.
Results – Great episode. I wish it had become a Halloween tradition to release a new episode every year.

Guardians Christmas Special
Expected – Ugh, I’m still traumatized over the Star Wars Christmas Special.
Results – Great, fun time to watch. I love those characters and enjoyed Kevin Bacon joining the show. Bacon needs to make more MCU appearances. I also like how it set up Guardians 3 without making it a mandatory watch.

Secret Invasion

Expected-This is the series I had been waiting for. Sam Jackson’s chance to shine as Fury. Mystery and intrigue, paranoia. The set up for the Dark Reign era. What could go wrong?

Results- Something that should never have been released.

Echo

Expected- I was intrigued. I don’t know the character from the comics. People here were saying it was going to be bad so I had low expectations.

Results-Much better than I expected it to be. I really enjoyed it.

Agatha All Along

Expected-I didn’t know how they were going to live up to WandaVision.

Results- One of the best MCU shows.

Daredevil:Born Again

Expected=I was really looking forward to the cast getting back together.

Results- While I enjoyed it for the most part, I couldn’t get over feeling deceived that Foggy and Karen didn’t have larger roles. Also, did we need Bullseye back?

Yeah, I really can't imagine a paper as respected as Varietdoing a "smear campaign" against something like the MCU, as for the article I kinda skimmed it and it seems like a perfectly fair analysis of what happened with Thunderbolts New Avengers and the rest of the MCU. I think as disappointing as it might be, we just have to accept that the MCU is struggling right now. They don't even come out for another month, and Supman is already kicking Fantastic Four: First Steps' ass at Box Office.

It's true that the interviews about the reshoots suggested they'd have larger roles, and I was disappointed there wasn't more, but I figure the new producers could only do so much to rework the storyline around the previously filmed material, so they could only manage to give Karen and Foggy some presence instead of none. I gather Karen will have a bigger role in season 2.

And yeah, I didn't need to see Bullseye again. I would like to see Elodie Yung return as Elektra.

to be fair, it might not have escalated this badly here on the main board, if 1701 was allowed to engage properly in TNZ. He was still banned from posting there, for some reason, even though he really didn't behave any differently than the rest in there, other than having a different point of view. I know its not my business, and I will not speak on it again. I like both of them, so it just sucks to see this happen in general.

:sigh:

You've been here long enough to know:

1. You don't debate moderator actions in thread.
2. You don't discuss things from TNZ outside of TNZ.

Moving on.
