Thematically, I believe it was supposed to represent Frank moving beyond vengeance as a motivator and instead choosing to be a protector. That's why he chose to save the little girl instead of going after Ma Gnucci. Frank went through a "rubber bullets" phase in the comics, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's what we get in the Spider-Man movie.
Damn, I had no idea he had a rubber bullet phase. I suppose that's better but they can still be lethal, especially at close range.

I'm sorry, that was random. Some of you will get it. It's early and I haven't eaten breakfast. Yeah, I'll behave now.
Never apologize for fun, random posts like that! Even though I didn't get the reference, I still found it amusing.

I didn't like One Last Kill. It really didn't seem to have any point.
It was not good.

The best Punisher stories move on from the origin story versus repeating it over and over again. This is why I like the latest bunch of Spider-man films.

This was a rehash of the origin story shot like a first person shooter video game.

Disney increased the brutality. We saw this with the latest season of Daredevil too. But even Daredevil for me isn't as good now as the Netflix series. It's become more special effects and political commentary versus good storytelling. I'm seeing this in more current fiction that I'm reading too.

I desire good stories that escape me from the reality of today.

I was disappointed that I forgot One Last Kill was coming out and cancelled my Disney+/Hulu subscription to switch over to Netflix, but it sounds like I'm not missing much.

Thank you. The Elf with a Gun is one of the more bizarre pages of the Marvel history book. Created by Steve Gerber (Howard the Duck, TNG's Contagion) for the Defenders in the early 70s, the Elf would just randomly show up in an issue, murder someone, and disappear. This would always happen independently of the hero story and never affect the storyline.

Then, in one issue, as the Elf was approaching a victim... He stepped out onto the road and was run over by a moving truck, killing him. The End.

Really.

That last appearance was written by David Anthony Kraft as Gerber famously left Marvel in an ownership dispute over Howard the Duck. The Elf was supposed to represent the randomness of life. You get up one day to live your life and mind your own business and then--- Blam! You're killed by an Elf with a gun (or run over by a moving truck). Very Gerber.

Anyway, later writers felt the need to explain the whole thing by having the Elves (plural) serving as time agents who weren't actually murdering these people, but removing them from the timeline because they were deemed to be a dangerous element to reality(!). Hence, the TVA connection in my brain.

Brilliantly weird and ridiculous. I love it.

And that sounds about right for the creator of Howard the Duck.

Which reminds me, I really need to watch that film again. Haven't seen it since I was a kid.

I just realized that my subscription was due to renew tomorrow but there's nothing I want to watch on D+ until X-Men '97 season 2 comes along sometime in the summer. So I went to cancel my subscription today, and I discovered that D+ has the option to let you "pause" your subscription from 2-8 weeks, during which time I presume you aren't charged. So I paused it for the maximum 8 weeks, which seems simpler than cancelling and renewing again. It seems like a handy feature that I wish other streamers would offer, though ideally for longer periods of time.

Wow, that sounds weird and random, and kind of awesome. That would be great for post credits scenes for the movies. We could have a whole phase of movies where the post credits scene is just the Elf With A Gun killing a random person. It would fun to watch everybody try to analyze the, when they actually has no connection to anything else and are just completely random.

Not post credits. Right in the middle of each film. That would make it so much funnier.

I seem to have enjoyed Punisher: One Last Kill more than the rest of you. Fun in a John Wick way (they even killed a dog!) but it also gave Frank some character development.

Did we ever see if or how he got out of that cell at the end of the first season of Daredevil: Born Again?

What, he Jonathan Majors one? No, that happened afterwards. but really soon after. Otherwise, Disney probably would have done a post-credit scene that didn't tease more Kang. But the video also makes that clear.

If you mean the Bill Murray thing, yeah, the Being Mortal allegations happened in 2022, though to call them "sexual" is a bit of a sensationalisation. Last year, Murray talked about what happened, and it's more a case of misguided humor and disregard for CoVID guidelines, as he kissed the woman while they were both wearing masks, as he thought that would be funny. Nonetheless, He didn't go into detail what kind of kiss, but since he tried to be funny, it probably was more of a peck than a proper, sexual kiss. But that's also just my interpretation, legally it was about "sexual misconduct".
Anyway, the video didn't go into much detail, either, and left Murray's clarifications out completely, which is okay, as that's not really what the video was about. Suffice to say when the news of allegations of sexual misconduct hit in mid-2022, some stories about Murray's history of bad behaviour towards some of his directors and co-stars recirculated, and that's why Disney reduced his role.

Thanks for that. I haven't watched the video yet--just read the description and didn't want to waste 30 minutes of my time for some BS story. As for Murray, I remember that story. He's also behaved like that on sets. I remember stories about Stripes and Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day. Back then the stories were told as humorous anecdotes. As far as I know, he's just one of those guys that had to learn some of the things he did on set weren't always appreciated or comfortable for everyone else.

EDIT: Sorry--I just realized it is only a ten minute video.

EDIT 2: It does sound like there was a much better film there, especially if the end credits scene had had the Kang from Quantumania appear in the council of Kangs scene. Marvel really messed up the post Endgame plan--and would have been better off if they had stayed the course with Majors or just recast.
