Major League Baseball 2009

In the end, the umps can't win or lose the game. Only the players can do that. If the Twins lost, it's their own damn fault. They had the lead and they blew it, pure and simple.

Sadly I agree with a Yankee fan.

The Twins had a fucking lead going into the 9th and they blew it! The series should be tied 1-1 instead the Yankees will most likely move on.

And the Red Sox... I knew they wouldn't get far in the playoffs, they have sucked the last half of the season and were extremely inconsistent, but I figured they might win a freaking game!

The up side ass bitch Chris Collins will continue to make an ass of himself. Serious anyone in New England watch that dumb fucker? He is always wrong, he thinks that Boston will win 150 games every season. How he still has his job I don't know... actually nevermind, it's clear.

I'm hoping for an Angels - Rockies World Series. I wouldn't bother watching it because the games most likely would start at 2am Eastern, but all the other teams I pretty much hate.

Beckett's done. Complete implosion.

I have no confidence in Buchholz Sunday, so looks like the Angels might finally proceed past the ALDS. Then again, maybe Buchholz and Dice-K will bring their A-game to counterbalance poor performances from Lester and Beckett.

Until the last out is made, this team is winning the World Series...

Lets get home, get the offense rolling, get some wins, and get it back to LA...

Lets do this.:klingon:

Another beautiful game pitched by the Angels. Weaver did a great job. Man, when Aybar's hit went to the wall, I was...very pleased.

Alex and Geddy are pleased too.

Time for Kazmir to earn his keep.

Let's finish this!!

All I can say is that if the Angels do finish the Sox off, you guys better go kick the living shit out of the Yankees. That would please me.

I really don't buy the "yeah the ump blew the call but Team X should have played through it". Thats all well and good, but it doesn't change the fact that the ump blew a call that easily could have been fixed had anyone looked at a replay.

I'm not for reviewing judgement calls on balls and strikes. But there's no way you can argue that Mauer's hit was foul. You just can't. Why get that call wrong when we easily could get it right? Why force a team to overcome someone else's mistakes when they don't have to?

Well, that's the plan....

We both know a series between the Red Sox and Angels is not over until the final out. I'm not going to be counting any chickens today. I am very happy we took care of business at home.

Overcome what?

The game should never have been in extra innings, they should have scored anyways with the bases loaded and zero outs. It's the Twins fault they were in that mess in the first place.

Yes it is the Twins fault they were in that spot. But how does this in any way, shape, or form justify a blown call by an ump?

And MLB has limited use of replays on homeruns, and thats about it.

Even then, if the replay will affect the outcome of the game, they're not happy about using it.

Hate to agree, but that's how I see it.

A lot of what ifs in the game:

If only the Twins wouldn't have stranded 17 runners.
If only Carlos Gomez wasn't an idiot on the base paths.
If only Joe Nathan didn't unchararcteristically fall apart.
If only the Twins would have scored when they had the bases loaded and no outs in the 11th. Granted, that was the inning with the blown call against Mauer, but Mauer singled afterwards in that at-bat and they did leave him and the other base runners stranded.

If only the Twins could win at Yankee Stadium. They're 0-9 this year and haven't won in NY since July of 2007. Just have to hope they sweep the Yankees at the Dome and get one more chance to end that losing streak.

Yeah, but there was a call earlier with a possible game tying home run in the bottom of the ninth. It was called foul. The Manager argued for a replay and got ejected from the game. Then the player failed to score and their team lost.

The only explanation I've ever seen for why that call wasn't reviewed was "It's up to the discretion of the umpires."

Leaving it in the hands of the umpires seems silly. They're the ones botching calls in the first place. Other sports get replays in big situations, I don't see why baseball is so behind the times.

Because that's the team's JOB, that's why. I'm not saying the ump's call was right, or that the blown call was justified. It seems clear that's not the case. But the umpires don't play the game. They didn't ruin it, they didn't lose it. Only the Twins did that. Of course, the ump's calls do affect the game, but it's the TEAM that wins or loses. Blaming the Twins' loss on the umpires is a cop-out. And I would have said the same thing had the Yankees lost.

Also, if you want to argue that the play should have been done over again, well, that's not the Twins' *or* the umpires' problem. That's MLB rules.

Okay, so the ump needs his head examined. Fine. We get it. But don't give me that conspiracy-theory crap about "the game was fixed" or anything like that. This isn't the fucking Black Sox.

I've even seen comments on the MLB.com message boards about how that ump was a Yankee fan and he wanted his team to win. :guffaw: Talk about leaps in logic...

I'm not saying the call cost anyone the game. My point is this simple:

The umps blew a call replay easily could have corrected. Why not prevent this from happening in the future?

Rox/Phils game cancelled for tonight. Good thing too, it's freaking freezing out here, bad day for baseball. Tomorrow should be in the 40's at game time.
