The Tigers also lost a game to the Twins today. That was a disappointment, but not a big surprise given how badly they've been leaking oil and dropping parts down the stretch. If they make it into the playoffs, I'll be thrilled.
I would not want to be a White Sox player and have to face Ozzie Guillen after a 11-0 loss... 
Giants now trail 2.5 games back in the Wild Card. Things are definitely going to get interesting in the final 2 weeks of the season.

Best of luck. I'd prefer that the Giants win the WC over the Rockies and the Braves/Marlins (mostly because I know at least three fans of theirs...you, Flux, Goji) but lord knows what I want to happen usually doesn't.

That was kind of like the battle of the rookie pitchers (Duensing vs. Porcello). Both pitched pretty well- I was expecting a higher scoring game (which is why I had so many Tigers and Twins in my fantasy lineups).
Today's game will have two veteran pitchers (Pavano and Verlander). I would expect a low scoring game, but knowing my prediction skills, it'll probably be a homer-fest.
Glad the Twins are back in the race (an added bonus- the media is finally talking about something other than Favre). I'm feeling more optimistic about their chances, but I'm also painfully aware of how bad they play on the road.
I don't think what I said was out of line. Clearly I have no authority over who is or is not a "fan." I'm not handing out fan certifications to people I deem worthy. I just have my opinion based on my experience as a Penn State fan and what I read from other people on these boards, and I expressed that opinion.
Anyway. Back to baseball. Even though Martinez has won most of his starts I still have no faith in him and expect Atlanta to win tonight. I'm a pessimist.

In this little ambush you all served up against me (well, most of you anyway), you attempted to force me to change my opinion because you did not believe I should be rooting for both the Yankees and Mets. And like I said, you have failed. You can jump down my throat all you want, but I'm not changing *my* opinion (or leaving the board) either. Mobs do not work against me.

It really doesn't. Casual fan isn't even an insult. It's what the vast majority of people are. Hell, I'm probably borderline casual fan when it comes to the Phillies (definitely a diehard PSU fan though).

Why is it weird to root for the two teams in one's city? Bringing some west coast flavor into the mix, there are the Giants and the A's out here. I follow the Giants more closely but I still root for the A's on occasion. Kinda hard to because I feel the team was almost unwatchable (Even though the pitching is pretty good) but I still have gone to a few games and stuff like that. I don't have a problem rooting for more than one team, especially if it's in your local area. However, I do always ask the question, "if both teams were playing each other in say, the final game of the world series, who would you root for?"
As for baseball, the Tigers have another critical game against the Twins right now. Up 2-1 going into the 5th. Verlander is on the hill today, so Detroit really can't afford to waste his start.
It is to me, because I don't consider myself one. Not as far as the Yanks or Mets are concerned. With something like Husker football, then yeah, 'cuz I know very little about football and I don't really like the game - I just go to see the whole Husker experience. So with *that* team, then I am casual. Not with baseball though. Baseball is all I really have left; I can't *afford* to be casual with it.
I'm sure you heard about the time I went in wearing my Yankee jacket. The only crap I got from anyone was from Mr. Met himself (gave me a thumbs down, the bastard
). In fact I sat next to a bunch of *other* Yankee fans, it turned out, and we all cheered - for the Mets, I might add.tomalak: I have no idea why people are so down on that sort of thing. I consider it my God-given right to root for whoever I want. As for the World Series (or interleague play), then I would have to say the Yankees. But that does not make me any less of a Mets fan, either, because interleague play is so rare. Besides, as I said, to root against the Mets would mean I would have to root against a New York team. I can't do that. It would be an insult *to* New York if I did that.

Just came back from the Orioles-Red Sox game. What an utterly meaningless game. I don't think I looked up unless I heard cheering (Sox did something good) or groaning (Sox did something poorly).
Let's try approaching this from a different angle, and maybe without the hostility, ok?
It's 7:30pm on a Tuesday during the season, which game are you watching? You live and die with these teams, so you ARE watching one of them, right? And don't say flipping back and forth, because that dilutes both of them, and leans towards casual fan of both. Even if you're flipping back and forth, you're watching one or the other more, so...?
How many Yankees games have you watched, on TV or in person, this season?
How many for the Mets?
