Spoilers Loki season one discussion thread

Disney protecting its IP. No surprise.
Disney overzealously protecting its IP. No surprise.
Third party third rate company overzealously protecting Disney IP without Disney having to ask? Not really surprised, but it is hardly newsworthy.

I know, probably not the best example of Loki IP, because he even said, its based off the comic. But its not a far reach to see Disney to C&D stuff that is even remotely close to the character.

Technically, all the "Fan Drawings" that they sell at conventions are also quite illegal. But it does get to a point of turning on your fans, or of technically yeah, there wrong, but there not taking any money away from you, and it looks bad.

Unless it's US cops using the Punisher badge on their riot gear.

All they'll do there is chuck $5 million (pocket change, by their standards) to social justice groups and let the cops keep on doing it.

Unfortunately for the little guys they may not have the resources to challenge even when they're in the right as would seem to be the case with the "Low Key" t-shirt guy.

If it was specifically based on something from the comic, and they were selling it, then I can see pulling it. One of the big no nos when it comes to this kind of unofficial fan made stuff is making money off it. If you are just posting it online or giving it to people without charging them, most companies are pretty forgiving, but the moment you start charging people for it, that's crossing a line for them.

Actually it depends. If the character or something in the IP being used in the fan art is trademarked, then the IP holder has to take legal action or risk losing the trademark.

The thing is, though, "Loki" is a public domain character being from Norse mythology.

The only thing Disney can control is this specific look for Loki and any original materials/stories they may have came up with using this specific version of the character from Norse mythology.

Whether or not they can control/trademark/copyright a green and white shirt that says "Low Key" on it because it was in a comic book once, I think, is tougher to say they have absolute possession over. I mean, do they now "own" the term "Low Key"? Green and white T-shirts? It's them throwing their power a bit too much because the "smaller" person doesn't have the resources to fight a frivolous and unreasonable lawsuit.

As a regular at Dragon Con, it's great to see the Marriott Marquis show up in a lot of the TVA scenes, notably the the scenes of Loki doing research at the archives which was filmed on the tenth floor. The renaissance fair scene was filmed at the Georgia Renaissance Festival and featured one of their cast members and a regular at Dragon Con, Ix the Troll King.

As for the reveal from the last episode.
I'm guessing that Lady Loki is combining Lady Loki and the Enchantress. They already set up that Variant Lokis have different powers and they were clear that the aura for this Variant matched Loki. Since Loki is genderfluid I'm guessing that this Variant just prefers being female and is trying to distance herself from Loki by using a different name.

Maybe we can can call the variant "Hi-Ki"

Whew! That was a lot of fun. Not only that, but rock quarries! A time-honored tradition among time travelers! :D

I absolutely loved the bickering banter between Loki and Sylvie as they navigated they way through the Lamentis apocalypse and managed to create a cautious truce between each other. While not much happened plot wise, I enjoyed how the episode took the time to develop the relationship between the untrusting two as they learned about each other's pasts and what made who they are now.

Considering what was discussed this past week after learning the Spanish credits called the female Loki Sylvie and everything we saw in this episode (particularly the repeated use of enchantment and the like), it does seem like Sylvie is more like the Enchantress and less so a female variant of Loki. We only have the TVA's word for it that Sylvie is a variant and she particularly doesn't like being called that or Loki. I suppose the simplest answer is she actually is a female variant who just happens to take on the attributes of the Enchantress and who doesn't want to be weighed down by labels connectingh her to variations of herself, but I can't help wonder if it's more to it than that. That said, I'm probably just overthinking this whole thing a la WandaVision (also, I don't really know anything about the Enchantress beyond what's been discussed in this thread).

I'm still not quite sure what Loki's goals are right now beyond riding alongside Sylvie as she tries to resume her machinations against the TVA, but he certainly lit up when he made the realization that TVA agents have no idea they're actually all variants and not created by the Timekeepers like they believe. That revelation certainly adds credence that there is something rotten to the core about the TVA and the Timekeepers. Loki clearly has a driving motivation now.

My theory is that the Time Keepers are not all-powerful beings that are protecting all of existence as they would like us to believe. The Time Keepers just created that myth about them in order to legitimize their authority and keep people in line. Rather, they are beings that mastered time travel and are using it to maintain power. They recruited variants from the timeline and are using them to maintain the timeline that favors them. I think the "sacred timeline" is not some all important timeline but just the timeline that leads to the Time Keepers winning the multiverse war or gaining power or something. So they are pruning the timelines that protect their own power. The red line probably does not mean the end of all existence as the Time Keepers suggest. That is just to motivate and scare the TVA agents in doing their job. The red line is probably just the point of no return where the TVA can't reset it. Since these alt timelines could lead to a multiverse where the Time Keepers lose, the Time Keepers want to make sure the TVA resets these timelines before they red line.

It is also possible that the lady judge is the real power behind the TVA and the Time Keepers themselves are a myth designed to instill fear and maintain order.

Story wise other than the revelation that TVA agents were real people prior this episode was a waste for a 6 episode Series, even if it was visually entertaining. Hoping episodes 4-6 are more akin to 1-2

The inconsistency of the characters as written is beyond horrific in this show. Do the writers even know what Lokis powers are? Or do they just pick and choose scene to scene and shot to shot? Outside of the TVA's realm he has access to his full power set, which includes teleportation. But no lets do something silly like have him board a train. Loki has the power of a frost giant and has trained in combat for several thousand years, easily handled Captain America in the Avengers, so combat should be no problem, oh wait he gets beat up by some guards and tossed out a window and then walks (remember he can teleport) all the way to town. Giant section of radio tower about to crush Loki, runs away, giant piece of building about to crush Loki, stops it with his powers. Fighting more guards with his fists, except when he blasts them with his powers and then more fists. Has the ability to molecularly rearrange his clothes into guard uniform, but then gets "full" and puts back on his variant coat.
Loki doesn't hide pad in pocket dimension for safety, nope keeps it in back pocket. I guess he has an ankle sheath for the daggers he just makes appear and disappear.
And of course nothing happened in this episode. Our characters are in the same place they started. We still don't know what Sylvies plan is. We learned one or two minor things about her but nothing of importance.
The only thing that was reenforced in this episode and again we learned this last week was that you cannot change the flow of time. Nothing that they were going to do was going to allow the Arc to leave. Because if they did a new branch would be created alerting the TVA to where they were.
Having characters talk in witty banter without moving the story forward may fill pages in a script but is really poor writing and this show is full of that.
