Least favorite Trek

No one's opinion about entertainment - in this thread, on this board, on the Internet, in the bleeding world - is without "personal bias." It cannot be otherwise, and anyone who believes themselves "objective" about such things is kidding themselves.

I am speaking of an informed opinion hardly a non personal biased one.

Kayarr merely has said he hasnt seen them all and has passed judgement. I was reccomending merely to him to take a chance and sit through it.

Photon over in the DS9 board made the suggestion to Kayarr and I was merely reinforcing it. My /tone/ came across when I thought he was talking about the board being biased against his opinion as being a DS9 run board.

I've heard from KayArr in a PM. In my opinion he is a class act.

So if anything i said came across as a personal attack towards him it was definitely unintentional :)

I also posted in a thread today that I'd watch DS9 and decide--an hour ago, I programmed some into my DVR--starting with the last 5 of season 4 and the season 5 premiere, I think, over the next two weeks.

Good choices. I would recommend the last ep of S5 and the first 7 of S6, but that is the begining of the Dominion War, so that might not be to your liking.

Perhaps you'd care to enlighten people with what Enterprise gave us that no other incarnation of Star Trek ever had done previously?

oh! oh! i know this one! Baseball Caps! no other Trek before dared to cover their cast's heads with baseball caps with the ship's registry on it!

serious, Enterprise didn't even blaze the trail in suckage; V'ger did. Enterprise just perfected it. a mealy-mouthed captain and a vulcan who gave me renewed respect in Jeri Ryan's acting ability (and at least with her those were real)

:guffaw: I loved those hats! I remember buying one on ebay during the shows run!

It still sits atop my computer monitor!

Now just have to find Cpt. Pike's captian hat on ebay!

Enterprise, though the fourth season, and possibly the third, is among the best of any of the other series. Not the best, but certainly as good as any from Voyager and several of TNG's. Acually, TNG hasn't worn all that well for me either. ;)

Even though I find all five enjoyable, I have to say that the Original Series and DS9 were my least favorite, which has gotten my attacked on this forum :). I've always watched trek at least partly because of the special effects, the cool aliens, and the strange new worlds.
For me, the "look" of the original series is so dated and the effects so cheesy, that I find myself distracted by the story thinking about how bad the "planets" and "aliens" looked.
With DS9, I had two problems. First, I had serious problems with both the Bajorans and the Ferengi. The whole "prophets" thing made me want to throw something at the television and the ferengi are just plain terrible. Has anyone ever seen a single ferengi focused episode from any series that was good?
My second problem, which I've grown to accept, is the idea of the whole series taking place on a space station. For me, part of the excitement of trek is starship that they do their exploring on. But that's just me.
Each series had it's strong points, but to me these two series had the most glaring problems. :)

I did watch what most see as the best DS9 episode--In the Pale Moonlight.

Have you watched all of Enterprise? How well informed are you about that?

I didn't mean to deride your favorite show, but "there's only 2 choices for the worst show" is bound to get anyone's dander up, don't you agree?

a lot of Niners I know here are actually Trekkies to the core. i.e., they've watched all Treks religiously, yours truly included. I'd have you know that I loved Enterprise, warts and all (that also means that I hated many of its episodes and said so). I watched every goshdarned episode, graded almost every one of them on the grading thread while it was on, and was a vociferous presence on the ENT forum since I joined this BBS. (and yes, I was also a 'shipper *hides* :p). I even campaigned for ENT to survive -- was staff in TrekUnited. I was miserable after it was canceled and still think it was prematurely put to death. every Trek deserves its seven seasons, IMO. ;)

But I am NOT going to make excuses for its many, MANY weaknesses. and I will only criticize a show if and only if I have watched all of it. I'd request that before you criticize DS9 to the extent you are -- watch more of the show. In the Pale Moonlight is certainly not hands down THE BEST EPISODE of DS9. for me, at least, that honor goes to Duet or The Visitor. to each his own, but criticism, to be well-received, needs to be well-informed.

Yeah--but DS9's allegory was its reason for existing--it was in your face all the time. For the other 4--they did other allegories about other issues, and did tons of shows that weren't allegories at all. The other 4 had more variety. DS9 was about occupations, bad tempers, and war week in, week out.

How can you make pronouncements like this when you've only seen 2 seasons of the show? I've seen every episode of every Trek show and there is no way that I could possibly make any blanket statements about any of them.
If you watched DS9 for the first 2 seasons and think that it was about "war week in, week out", then you must have been watching a different show than I was.

Did the two of you read my posts stating that I'm just about to start watching DS9? Sometimes it's a good idea to read all the way to the bottom, especially when a thread is only 2 pages long!

okay okay, I just saw that. I'll shut up :p KayArr, come over to the Niner board sometime and chat to us about what you think, 'k? and don't hold back. :)

can't wait to see what you think of the Visitor and the S6 Occupation Arc! I promise war stories aren't all that bad on DS9. take it from someone who, in general, hates war stories.

It is also good to watch more of a series before pigeonholeing into one category. I did read that you were going to watch more of the show and I'm glad. The snarky comment about reading the whole thread wasn't needed though. :p
I hope you like the show.

Well it's going either Enterprise or Voyager.

While Voyager's writing can be all over the place however I found the likes of Torres, the Doctor and Seven to be engaging characters.

I didn't find any of Enterprise's characters to be that engaging and its writing as a whole was just as bad as so my least favorite Trek is Enterprise.
