Any show concept needs to reflect its budgetary limitations. The right sets are the sets that can be reused.
What about a new Trek series that takes place entirely in and around the Vasquez Rocks?

An interesting idea - in fact Discovery's original idea - but it would still be kinda expensive.
IMHO if they're thinking of going this route they should probably look to what TOS did and see how they could reuse existing CBS standing sets - build entire episodes around them - in order to reduce production costs.

Maybe a space station series with the entire cast of characters are alien and there's little to no humans there. It would probably be expensive task but with the success from DISCO and CBS Allaccess --Allegedly-- and the Picard series has already been approved of a season 2; it skies the limit in making as many Trek series CBS can muster. From the new Trekcore article:

Starfleet Academy and Pike?
I feel like another prequel will only set Trek fans screaming bloody murder.
My New Star Trek series wishlist: No prequels, no alternate timelines, no wars, no season long arcs, and no bratty cadets.

Because studio execs see "Young hot kids + Star Trek." Because it's younger people in a school setting, they get to add soapy romance storylines, you get a hunky bad boy. To them that screams money. That damn Academy pitch goes back to at LEAST 1991 and I do not know why it keeps creeping back up...............
No season arcs? In 2020, that's doomed to fail.

Fair enough. You’re the first I’ve seen on record.Because it appeals to some fans, like myself.
It must appeal to more than just me, given the books and comics that I have read over the years.Fair enough. You’re the first I’ve seen on record.

Yeah if done properly I guess it could be good, but my fear is the soapy, teen angst angle being over done. I’ll wait and see on anything. I would love me some Pike though.I’m keen on it, have been for years. As long as it doesn’t completely bash me over the head with the soap opera-ness of it all.
Any that he’s not involved in? That would be wishful thinking.![]()
