Jayru (JSnaith's) 3D Trek

Merry Xmas all!

Just a quick render to show what the ship looks like with a to scale TMP bridge. Think it works better, although the bridge will need some tweaks to work -

Comments, as always, welcome. Have a great day folks, and see you in a few!

Some really good research here:
https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/the-excelsior-uncovering-the-design.307623/

My favorite would be a synthesis of the movie Excelsior with Ingram.

Ingram bridge…the rest the saucer a cross between the model and your Odyssey…the Excelsior’s tall neck, but only two torpedo tubes up front—they would be semi-recessed Ingram types—but located where Excelsior’s two “holes” are. The aft weapons would be where Ingram’s lower shuttlebay is: two refit type TMP tubes side by side—with just the tips of two Reliant type megaphasers between the two tubes.

The big difference? Just one Shuttlebay hanger far down the fan-tail cut-out…more Ingram style than the model. No hanger bay on the very aft tip of the secondary hull…just a “ten backwards” semi-circular officers lounge like what the refit has on the B/C deck.

Assault craft just lie along the flat upper surface of the secondary hull…with manholes straight down.

The result would be a ship you could just Styles and Cartwright command—but which looks more of a refit evolution than the actual Excelsior ship model…yet can still be seen as a villain with smirking conspirators looking out a dome in the very aft tip of the secondary hull.

Here the refit Enterprise still has more of a real, science based interior shuttlebay than Styles ship…which would fill that lowest bay with one yacht type craft.

This way the Refit looks even more the hero…and it eliminates you trying to put a tiny shuttlebay in that tail-tip. Make it a lounge.

Thank you for the link. Some interesting and useful information there.

It would be real easy to develop something some new based on the Excelsior. Easy in the sense I could do pretty much what I want, lol. This... Is more about trying to capture the basics of the ship/class. The idea here is to take the outline and make it work, which can be done.

He he he, my insane(?) need to rationalise designs to make them work...

The small shuttle bay on the aft of the secondary hull is just that - although small is a relative term - it is three decks high and has a nice interior length to it. I do plan to add a larger hanger bay to the undercut. One that would connect direct to the cargo hold.

I plan to do a new type of bridge module as well. The Trek VI one is just way to big for the frame. The TMP style one doesn't quite work, so something like it will be created, but without the aft hatch and lights.

But, I am going to keep enough lines and details that says "Excelsior" without the need to find a new class name.

After that? I have some ideas for a TNG ship or two. Time permitting ;-)

More soon!

New take on the bridge module - more TMP with a little ST:VI thrown in as well -

I think this is the way to go.

In terms of the ships size - and I am going to stick to the 467meters as much as humanly possible -

This is the point I was trying to make about the as-seen-on-screen Excelsior - she is not a behemoth of a starship, just a little bigger in terms of length and width. Otherwise, she wouldn't be able to fit through the doors on Spacedock, lol (which thanks to ST:III we know she can). Hope this helps to see the direction I'm going.

But in the mean time - enjoy the holiday! More soon :-)

Like a lot of ships the Excelsior has quite a lot of size issues, 467 is a tad cramped with regard to window placements and so on, to be able to clear the spacedock doors she can't be larger than 600 meters, however it seems it's best to stick at 467m

^^ Nice article on the matter.
Anyway, as usual great work. :mallory::techman:
It's a very good article - and as for window placement, I have the decks worked out properly for this build, and she will conform to standard size decks of the day. It's possible to do :-)

More soon.

Today's offering - lots of built in detail. Getting close to being able to texture the saucer and move on to the rest of the ship -

Re comments made regarding the size off the ship - she's still a nice sized ship at 467meters. She is larger than the refit-E, and on paper at least looks good as a new "heavy cruiser" design. She's not a behemoth - which I think is right for this time period. Just some thoughts.

Anyways, comments and the like welcome. More soon :-)

Morning!

Fixed a detail error on the nacelle pylons (woops), rushed things yesterday - less haste is required :-)

Added in the torpedo launchers. Now, I've used the rectangular ones form the refit-E which I think is going to fit better with this time period. It's a small change, but one that needed to be made -

Last of today's offerings -

The undercut is done and locked down. This has the biggest change to the design, a proper shuttle bay which would connect nicely to the cargo bays. Added aft phasers as well, because - well, there aren't any on the blueprints for the class -

Hope you are all keeping well - especially those of you in the USA. Keep warm. Comments welcome, more soon :-)
