James Cameron's Avatar: Discuss/Countdown

Absolutely. Cannot. Wait. for it. I've been following its progress since it was announced ... several years ago now!

Anyway, yeah - I look forward to a trailer.

Agreed..

And another thing I hate...all this anti-TITANIC crap. The movie nearly makes 2billion, in 1998 or whatever. And now no one admits to liking it? Such bullshit, and proof that people just follow the trends years after the success of a movie. Simply because its cool to bash on the movie NOW.

Well...you don't make nearly 2billioin at the movies unless someone is seeing it more than once, and I mean a LOT OF someones, especially considering how old the movie is now.

Cameron did good..TITANIC is a good movie...

Rob

I loved Titanic. It's one of my favourite films of all time. It's a fantastic, amazingly crafted film. Fanboys hate it because their action God make a dramatic, romantic weeper and their little hearts just couldn't take it. The man who made Aliens made a movie with a Celine Dion song!?! NNNNOOOOOOO!

At some point - and I'm not sure when - it suddenly became fashionable to hate Titanic, which is probably one of the most stunning films ever made.

Seriously, it's a brilliant piece of work. And I'm saying this as somebody who is generally not a fan of romantic films.

In fact, here's a bit of provocation:

In terms of epic romance films, TITANIC is better than GONE WITH THE WIND and CASABLANCA could ever hope to be.

I think in 20 years, when it's fashionable to hate a different brilliant film, more people will agree.

Someone posted that on a forum. It's a direct transcript of the first few minutes of his extremely long and boring "speech" at E3. :p
No please don't remind me I've been trying to forget about it. :(

Cameron really has aged these last few years.
Really? At times during the E3 press conference I thought he looked like a woman. And based on reading some of the comments in the chat I was in I certainly wasn't the only one.

Yeah folks, let's not knock Titanic too much. I'm usually strongly opposed to any film classified as purely romantic, but it was an extremely well-made film. And I for one am very impressed that the guy who did Aliens, T2 and True Lies could also make something like Titanic. Let's all just wait and see about Avatar. Remember what the naysayers said about Titanic...

Anyway, yeah - I look forward to a trailer.
I'm surprised there's still no word on a trailer. My money would've been on attaching it to what I think will end up being the biggest movie of the summer, Transformers 2. Maybe Harry Potter? Comic-Con?

I share no love for Gone With The Wind's version of the American Civil War, but better than Casablanca? Please. Nobody in Titanic has anywhere near the commanding screen presence of Humphrey Bogart in that film.

I was actually a little surprised that the first real official publicity for the film came via E3 news about AVATAR the video game.

Really? Let's at least get a real trailer for the film, first.

There's this:

but come on, that doesn't count!

the film exists!

Official concept art just released:

That second one looks somewhat like a Yes album cover by Roger Dean.

The visuals look like they'll be stunning, but the story had better be up to scratch too.

So, "Avatar Day" (when IMAX theaters around the world will be screening 15 min. of footage from the movie for free) is coming up on August 21st. Anyone hear anything yet about which specific theaters might be getting it?

Every time I mention this movie to anyone all I get is a blank stare and "you mean that cartoon with the kid that does kung fu?"

I expect this will change over the next several months, and I hope Cameron put as much time and effort into the story and characters as he did with the special effects, as PJ did with LotR. Someone else's LotR could have been like the Narnia movies instead. :(

well Ive recently been looking up all sorts of info about this film & am really looking forward to it. I cant wait to see Sam Worthington as a 10 foot tall blue tailed big eared alien.:p

I have to say though what Ive heard of the plot makes me think its just going to be another variation of Dances with Wolves with a bit of Disney's version of Atlantis thrown in. I have a feeling a lot of fanboys who want a more bad-ass film are gonna be disappointed.

'Avatar' Day [Aug.21] Details Finally Announced

The tickets will only be available online, and the website will eventually reveal just how and where you get them.

For those of us who don't nab a golden ticket, there's still hope. An alternate, "conventional" trailer will be debuting the same time in 2D and 3D, and will play before Post Grad, Inglourious Basterds, and other summer and fall releases.

Re: update ‘Avatar Day‘ (August 21, 2009) & trailer

Apparently, even in the big cities where the 15 min. of footage will be screened, it won't be as easy as strolling in off the street. Tickets may be scarce. There is a contest being done by Rotten Tomatoes to attend one of the screenings in Australia:

I'm going to see if I can manage to get a ticket.

I have been notified by my friend (his wife is a news producer for a local network affiliante) that we are going! cant wait!

Now, if only Cameron would re-make RAISE THE TITANIC? I mean, come-on, its so THERE!

Rob

I have my ticket for Friday. And because Australia is ahead of most of the rest of the world in timezones, I'll get to see it before all of you in North America and Europe. :)

I'll post my reaction here after I get back on Friday night.
