James Cameron's Avatar: Discuss/Countdown

This is also stuff from the game. Not even the movie. But the game.

True, but Cameron emphasized that the game was meant to perfectly mimic the look of the movie. So is the movie also going to have this generic forest environment representing an alien world? Because I thought we were promised that the planet featured in the movie would look far more alien than anything we've ever seen.

The rumble around town is that the budget is comming up on 400 million. Not counting P & A. This could be his Waterloo.

I heard there's not even going to be any firebending or airbending in this movie...lame.

There's also some pictures here of a full-size (I assume) power suit shown at E3.

Could have used that about 12 years ago on that Starship Troopers movie.

This movie is going to be an amazing success or an amazing failure but I think it will be memorable one way or another.

I can't wait for this. No matter how it turns out, it's still a new film from Cameron. The last feature he did was Titanic and before that it was True Lies. Amazing how much time has passed and how few films he's done....but they're ALL still better than Terminator Salvation...

Someone posted that on a forum. It's a direct transcript of the first few minutes of his extremely long and boring "speech" at E3. :p

Does anyone get a Stormtroopers vs. Ewoks vibe from his description of the movie's climax?

Also I'm not sure that I want to see two ten foot tall blue cat things fuck.

Agreed..

And another thing I hate...all this anti-TITANIC crap. The movie nearly makes 2billion, in 1998 or whatever. And now no one admits to liking it? Such bullshit, and proof that people just follow the trends years after the success of a movie. Simply because its cool to bash on the movie NOW.

Well...you don't make nearly 2billioin at the movies unless someone is seeing it more than once, and I mean a LOT OF someones, especially considering how old the movie is now.

Cameron did good..TITANIC is a good movie...

I didn't see it when it was out in theatres, didn't like it when my parents rented it on video, and still dislike it. Just because millions of other people went out to see it (many of them many, many times) doesn't mean my position is in any way revisionist or motivated by a desire to jump on a trend.

I'm moderately interested in Avatar, though I strongly suspect it will be too long, too expensive, and too far from the mainstream to be a financial success. Still, I plan on seeing it, unless the trailers seriously crush my interest.

I'm hesitant to trust Avatar 100 percent simply because it's going the George Lucas route. But everything else James Cameron has done that I've seen, I've loved. So I think that if any director can pull off this type of film, it's him.

You've actually seen Piranha II: The Spawning?:rommie:

I loved Titanic. It's one of my favourite films of all time. It's a fantastic, amazingly crafted film. Fanboys hate it because their action God make a dramatic, romantic weeper and their little hearts just couldn't take it. The man who made Aliens made a movie with a Celine Dion song!?! NNNNOOOOOOO!

Piranha II: The Spawning I have seen as well. Not so good. But then again, the producers let Cameron go after several days of filming, so it's hardly his movie.

Reading that speech, I don't find it boring at all. Sounds interesting, to me.
