I'm assuming since you went to see it opening night, you fall into the first category?
She's done a few things over the last few years, but I don't think she's quite as popular as she was before she started having all of her issues.
How did you see it a day early? Its midnight tonight here in the uk
In Germany, new movies are usually released on Thursdays, as opposed to the Fridays in most English-speaking countries, and the previews are on Wednesday night, accordingly. And because of the length of the movie, the screening started at half past six.
Used to be the same here. I have noticed since Covid they don’t do as many midnight viewings.
The movie was pretty good but it’s very similar to the second one. At least the next one should be very different.
The new score was composed by the same person that did the previous sequel.
Why not just let another director do the last two? He said he might a few years ago
Word is unless this does incredibly, he's not going to get any more greenlit.
I guess we'll see what happens here, but the buzz is decidedly more mediocre than the last two, so I'd be surprised if it does as well at the box office.
I enjoyed the first two but this is just a rehash of the second one which he lampshades at one bit by talking about the great speeches Jack gave but skipping over them.
I think the repetitiveness is that to keep costs manageable by filming two and three together, they could reuse the same sets and digital assets...
I'd say that bothered me quite a bit, it's not a problem for casual viewers because this was good, but since I love to watch these films a lot, recycling more 5-10 or more minutes of dialogue from the previous two films and that's excluding the catch phrases, was a bit too much on the nose, especially given the length. And given that I am mixed on some of the additional world building (no, not the cultural side of it).
It's still impressive that, in spite of that, it was solid and still kept you completely engaged from start to finish, and got me emotional at multiple points – they should not have spoiled revelations in the trailer, and that would have been even better (I still like that the trailer managed to mislead and be ambiguous as to the actual plot).
I also think lines of defence I've used on the alleged derivativeness of the first film and The Force Awakens still applies here: Repeating the beats established previously, and the overall structure, is not all a film is about, so “just a rehash” is not a fair description of what I saw. Character growth and the story beyond the basic plot moved forward, and not like the previous film(s). I am, frankly, more disappointed that the effect of this derivativeness in-universe than this not bringing enough new to me as a viewer
the reuse of locations and basic plot points left a sense that we simply finished last movie's business by trying again, which I don't consider a “rehash”, but it's still a waste of a movie of sorts, and took away from the resolution of the first one. Yeah, it was clear that we were hardly done with the sky people, but having to fight the same fight - even if it was effectively foreshadowed - gave me of sense that we're running in circles. Not necessarily in a bad way, mind you, but it still did bother me.
"Word" is an overstatement at best - that's a generous characterization.
Just for starts, you understand that it's a given that this will do "incredibly" compared to anything other than previous James Cameron movies?
