James Cameron's Avatar: Discuss/Countdown

After reading a summary this might be too sci-fi for regular audiences. It'll be really funny if this movie flops like T4 after all the bragging about it being the most expensive movie ever.

Every film James Cameron has come out with since The Abyss has set the record of being the most expensive movie ever made at the time.

Hey...you gotta' do what works. :)

This, currently, is my most anticipated film out there. Cannot...wait.

I just watched the Ubisoft E3 press conference. James Cameron talked about the Avatar movie and game for 20 minutes and they didn't show a second of game footage. I was bored to tears.

If the Avatar isn't the best movie of all time when it's released there will be hell to pay. Blame the ridiculous hype.

Holy fuck, that was the most rambling piece of shit I've ever heard in a while. It was like watching someone describing their cool science fiction story: "We've got these Rakkaroos and Marmalooks that look like giant space dragons who can shoot laser beams from their eyes."

What the hell was the point of that?

The funny thing is, maybe I'm not looking for it, I don't know, but the only hype I've heard about is people saying there's hype. I haven't actually encountered any yet, save for my own anticipation, but only because I'm a huge Cameron fan.

Where is all this ridiculous hype people keep talking about?

What is James Cameron's screen name on TrekBBS? Then I'll be able to comment on his avatar.

Well, this E3 thing for one. "We have this special surprise Hollywood guest... it's James Cameron!"
Then, he just stood on stage and rambled for nearly TWENTY MINUTES about Avatar. Even Spielberg or the fucking Beatles didn't get that kind of self-indulgent stage time today.

You guys are crazy. As an ardent admirer of both sci-fi and Cameron, I'm looking forward to this. The man deserves the hype.

So Cameron's finally done milking the success of Titanic?

Wha? I think Titanic was one of the most overrated movies ever but I have to defend the man. If Cameron had tried to milk Titanic he would have done as many as movies as possible after that for the big paychecks. It looked to me like Cameron went into self imposed exile for 10 years not bothering to make anything besides documentaries hoping the hype would die down before doing a real movie. So there was no milking. :rommie:

I sort of get a feeling that this movie will be Cameron's King Kong. After PJ did LOTR he did King Kong which did okay but not that great.

.

That's one way of looking at it. But you could also argue due to Titanics huge success Cameron no longer had to make movies to earn a living. He could just live off the success of Titanic; thus milking it.

Or you could say he took the time to develop new underwater camera technology, 3-D technology, motion capture and animation technology and basically a bunch of other things that have and probably will revolutionize certain facets of filmmaking...not to mention have a hand in funding various scientific expeditions, having a hand in shaping historical artifact and illegal treasure hunting legislation and doing everything he can to preserve maritime history through donations, education and technological discovery.

Damn milker.

Naaaa, those things have existed for years. In some cases decades.

Fortunately I won't let a press conference determine how I'll approach a film's quality, especially for a film I haven't seen yet.

I'm certainly going to watch it. Avatar and Moon are the only films I'm excited about this year, that haven't already come out.

I would be excited about GI Joe but everything I've seen regarding it has diminished my enthusiasm to nearly nothing.
