Jake's Babylon 5 Watch

Yeah, I'd heard about the "Deep Space Franchise" comment before. I also wondered at the design of the Cortez. It didn't impress me all that much. I've heard not to get attached to Keffers, and the writers so far have made it very easy not to.

Seeing Michael Ansara as a wizard was pretty cool. And I'm really, really loving Londo. G'Kar continues to be underused, but his appearances are all memorable. That's a new Na'Toth, isn't it?

Good a place as any to drop this - the girls got together for lunch the other day:

It's kind of cool to see that they've stayed in touch with the actress who played Talia. Given the circumstances under which she left the show I thought there might be some bad blood there...though given how it worked out for Lyta, perhaps not.

So I just got to The Coming of the Shadows. Yeah, the episode lives up to the hype. That was fantastic.

Just finished episode 9. So I've been introduced to the Rangers and their leader. I had heard the term before, but I didn't know what they were.

What I wouldn't give to see something with Garak and Londo, or at least Andy Robinson and Peter Jurasik together.

Oh, I like B5 better too, but over the years I've found it prevents arguments by saying "One may have borrowed from the other, but the end result was two really good shows, so what the heck."

I'm also fond of saying that B5 has some greatness because it stands as a show that in large part was written out ahead of time and held true, mostly.

On the other hand, there's something to be said for the fact that DS9 flew more by the seat of its pants and still delivered.

At this point in time the characters from B5 don't give me the same "warm fuzzy" that I get from DS9. Rewatching DS9 feels like visiting old friends. So there definitely is that.

You will find some more new friends here, I prognosticate.

Well, I'm liking Lennier right now. I'm about halfway through season 2 now. I love, love, love the setup for the Shadows. How they live in "dead places" and how people have been seeing them forever but things are only just now getting heavy. How Morden always asks "What do you want?" Oh, one thing that was cheese was the Streib, or whatever you call it. The ship that kidnapped Sheridan. That alien mask was so embarrassingly bad.

The Streib are a pun. They're JMS's tribute to the classic gray yokel-abducting aliens that Whitley Streiber wrote about in his allegedly non-fiction book Communion.

Oh, that's funny. Just found out that I've seen the last of Na'Toth until season 5. Hope she becomes interesting then. Feel bad for Warren Keffers. I've seen him in four or five episodes and I hear he only got six. Don't care about the character either way, but poor actor, man.
