Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

I think it's worth being the first person in this thread to point out that Voyager was pure garbage. God knows why they appointed the same crew to create the next Trek series. Now look where TV Trek is!

And anybody trying to defend Ryan's role as anything other than a PR move at getting males interested and free publicity, is deluded. Nearly every Seven story could have easily been done with a male Borg.

But my biggest bugbear? Twenty years later, and in a society where the Fappening is a weekly event, and adolescents are exposed to porn before they even have sexual tendencies, I still have no clue if Jeri Ryan has breast implants!

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

You're right of course, all your words are sweet and wise. Especially about the 7 stories being done with a male Borg, I personally would have paid real navy beans to see a male Borg push Harry over and offer copulation to him. REAL navy beans.

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

Did you like One? I thought that actor(J. Paul Boehmer) could have been good as the male 7.

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

EXCELLENT

Also I demand lycra on the entire Rock, for the assets of course. Struttin' through the corridor..

"Romance is irrelevant."

Throws the babbling Harry onto the floor and JUMPS.. the crowd goes wild!

We could even have a crowd track for that episode, really it's as if the cosmos are cheering.

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

The only people who talk about hooters in space and disparage her are the ones who don't like her
I think you're being a bit naive. I like her, but I'm pretty sure she was hired mainly for the size of her 'hooters' (which I believe are 'augmented'). It's the sort of move the 'suits' would pull on a pretty shallow show in need of a shot in the arm. By the same token, they'd have been stupid not to pick someone who could act too.

All the same, they got lucky that they got someone both likeable and genuinely talented.

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

Of course she was hired as a sex boost. But she (immediately) surpassed that. Yet some people think that's pretty much all her role was.

Not only that, but once the writers had an interesting character played by a talented actress, they actually produced good material for her.

Seven Of Nine was like a Superhero to me. :adore: No body complains about Superman's outfit. Some do. LOL!

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

I think everyone needs to put things into perspective. Mulgrew, for whatever her faults were, came up in the ranks when it was difficult to be a television actress (i.e. her "Mrs. Colombo" years). Getting another chance to helm another television show was important to her, and she felt slighted that the producers decided to "sex it up" in order to spike the ratings, not to mention she didn't like the way Jennifer Lien left the show. Yes, it was not right for Mulgrew to have a negative opinion of Jeri Ryan's introduction to the show, but it is understandable as to why Mulgrew would resent the move.

SEX-BOOST! Just add water!

The advertising people and the creative people are not the same people.

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

It's important to remember that there are no human heroes and villains in the production of the Star Trek series. Just a bunch of people, some more virtuous than others, but all with their individual flaws and pecadilloes. The last perfect man died in the Nexus twenty years ago.

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

No sir.

Advertising people are drug pushing pimps preying on the weak of character.

Right now, those bastards are trying make me change my preferred brand of bubblegum.

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

Was Jennifer Lien sacked? Am trying to think of the reason why the others regulars left in the modern Treks.

Terry Farrell left of her own volition. Why did Wheaton leave? Crosby was sacked for sure, I'm guessing it was because of the Playboy spread.

Was it just budget reasons for Lien? They didn't apply to DS9 when Dorn came onboard, and I'd be pretty sure he would have been one of the bigger earners.

Re: J. Ryan Speaks About Her ‘Intentionally Unpleasant’ Experiences on

Crosby was sacked for sure, ...
No, she asked to be released from her comtract because she felt her character was underutilized, she had to turn down other opportunities because she was doing TNG and most of the time she just said "Hailing frequencies open".

Gates McFadden was fired after season 1 and then brought back after Diana Muldaur refused to do the first few episodes of season 3, Muldaur was offered a contract as a series regular, but she didn't want to commit to that, that's why she was a guest star in season 2.

Wil Wheaton asked to be written out like Crosby.

Terry Farrel left when her contract was up and did Becker instead, I think I heard the producers offered her less money than the other regulars for season 7 of DS9 but she wasn't actually shown the door, she could have stayed.

Jennifer Lien was fired to make room for another series regular, I guess the primary reason really was the budget, DS9 probably saved money elsewhere, maybe they reduced the number of extras in the promenade or something, there always seemed to be a hundred running around.
That DS9 had no network which was involved in the production might have helped too.

[serious]Garrett was late to work and couldn't remember his lines often. [/serious]

They were going to fire Wang.

Then he was voted #25 in the 1997 People Magazine's 50 most Sexy People Poll.

http://www.amiannoying.com/(S(sxarxvhi11ury4yksp4rh1yh))/collection.aspx?collection=57

TPTB weren't allowed to fire him anymore, but Berman had already spent Wang's paypacket next year on "stuff" so if they couldn't extract Wang, the next worst actor in the cast had to be dumped instead.

Wang was expecting to be fired.

He knew it was coming.

Jennifer was ninjashitcanned.

A total surprise.

Poor wee girl.

Do you suppose that's why his tear of pending death on that biobed was convincing? He was going to miss his paycheck and has to hear toldja so from mom?
