Indiana Jones 5. It's official.

^^ Or during the revolution. That could illustrate some frightening parallels.

They better start filming IJ5 soon, since everyone involved seems to be long into their retirement years.

This whole situation is just so weird. We don't even have an idea of what the plot is going to be, and it feels less likely to get made with every passing day, despite getting news like this. They can't do a "passing the torch" story, since the last movie ruined that. Harrison Ford was barely able to hold up the action parts that he had in KOTCS, and he's far past those days now (many people thought he was past those days during KOTCS). If it takes another few years to make, Ford is going to be playing Indiana Jones having some kind of nursing home based adventure, kind of like in Bubba ho Tep. Actually, now that I think about it, Bruce Campbell as Elvis teaming up with Indiana Jones to fight a mummy does have potential.....

Anyway, its cool to have Williams back, assuming the movie actually ends up getting made.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I find myself keeping my enthusiasm in check since we know so little about it. I think it's frankly still too early for them to start hyping it.

As for Harrison Ford, easy way to do it would be to have him narrate one of his past adventures, possibly to a grandson, then cut to a younger version of him played by a different actor. This way, if they ever continue the movies without Ford, they would still have an introduction to this new actor without it feeling out of place, and they'd have the option of telling earlier stories in the era and setting where he was most popular.

Why are they still trying to make this happen?

We know from the Young Indiana Jones Adventures that Old Indy at some point loses an eye. The opening could have some kind of recap of how that happens, leading into his telling a grandchild another adventure.

From what I gather, mostly because Harrison wants it to. No idea if there's any truth to it, but I recall reading back when TFA came out that one of the conditions of him coming back to play Han again was that he also got to play Indy one more time too.
Assuming it's true for a moment; Maybe he wanted to leave the character on a better note than 'Crystal Skull'? (Which BTW I never thought was all that bad, at least not in a series that also includes 'Temple of Doom'...)

I like the idea of doing the Young Indiana Jones style of movie--and get Alden Ehrenreich to play Indy in the flashback story.

Why not bring the story full circle? Sean Patrick Flannery is active and only 55. He could easily play Indy in between Last Crusade and KotCS. Of course, there's always Anthony Ingruber. If there was a young/old Indy flashback kind of adventure, that would be a good pairing with Ford.

As the story goes, the original plan for the Indy Movies back when Speilberg and Lucas were vacationing in Hawaii after Star Wars in '77, was for 5 movies. And the completest in me is really happy that will actually happen.

Yeah, if A View to a Kill can get slated for featuring a 57 year old Roger Moore then this is in another league.
Put Roger Moore at 57 next to Ford at 78 and you wouldn't think there is 21 years between them, plus the characters are different.

Just think Daniel Craig isnt much younger than Moore was either.

Although I can only imagine Ford playing Indy as he did Han where age is almost a comedic tool.

I thought last time was pushing it, I guess it's going to be less action more character based, at least for the ford indy character.

Just got visions of another passing the baton type movie.

It doesn't have to be, at least in the general sense though. Ford's not getting any younger, and I think many had misgivings with the story they told in Crystal Skull, and I tend to feel the time-period felt off for an Indy movie. I feel the movies worked better when set earlier in the timeline, so setting the new movie with Ford as narrative device with a younger actor playing the active part I think is a great way to introduce the new actor and still give Ford something to do in a way that isn't jarring. It can be completely natural within the context of the storytelling. At the end, you could have Old Indy meeting back up with some of the characters from earlier on in his life that he's been narrating about.
