Indiana Jones 5. It's official.

Actually, after realizing it, that's not even the lost city I was thinking of, although I did see the movie that this story was about. The one I was actually thinking of was The Lost City of the Monkey God, which sounds even more Indiana Jones-y.
Yes, that would be great, too. Indiana Jones and the Flesh-Eating Parasite, however....

Monkey God is indeed a great title for the movie. Even if it has no monkeys or is about something else I still approve.
Ah, that's right, you always loved monkeys. :rommie:

Monkey God vs the Flesh-Eating Parasite. Coming to a 1950's Sci-Fi movie soon! Directed by Roger Corman starring Guy Williams and Ann Francis.

I could just imagine Indy saying, "You didn't tell me there were snakes!"
Then one of his companions replies, "And also flesh eating parasites!"
Indy: "I hate snakes!"

Have Indy head off to Vietnam just as the war is ending to find a bottle that supposedly has a genie in it. He gets help from his daughter and a old colleague and a brother and sister team from there who are Vietnamese. The brother is also a love interest for the daughter. The bad guys are a rogue American team who have killed innocent people and basically the type of soliders you see in ever Vietnam war movie and Chinese exploiters who want to steal the ancient bottle.

Eventually Indy and team get the two sets of bad guys to kill each other and it turns out the genie is real. She grants a wish to the daughter who gets to the bottle first. Presto! Harrison Ford is now young and any movie star they want to reboot the character with for future movies. The daughters wish was for her dad to be young again and less jaded because like lots of people in the 70's the War and Nixon made them bitter about the world.

Are genies a big part of Vietnamese culture?
Could do Lost City of Atlantis. Maybe the Library of Alexandria. Or he has to go up Mt Everest.

Jason
Or Iram of the Pillars.

Or Iram of the Pillars.

I don't think so but the Vietnam War is such a huge part of what we think of the 70's it sort of makes sense to maybe have Indy exploring over their. Also it's better than my second idea were Indy goes to Studio 54, takes a little bit of stuff he shouldn't and spends the rest of the movie chasing a Dragon.

Regarding Lost City of the Monkey God, if they set it in the 70's like some have speculated, they could run afoul of the Colombian drug cartel, which according to the story, were using the area, both to hide in and dump bodies. They could also come across some indigenous tribes who are living in the area who don't take kindly to trespass. There are so many natural elements to make a great story and still pay respects to the history and still have a lot of mystery and speculation as to what happened.

There's one part of Douglas Preston's book about his expedition where he describes these huge deadly snakes just hanging from trees that I could see Indy nearly faint from. I'm not doing the description justice, but it was scary just hearing about it!

Are you talking about "The Codex" here, or another book (which I may not have read yet)?

I’m just remembering Tales of the Gold Monkey, the 80’s Indy ripoff ABC series staring Steven Collins.

In Gold Monkey's defense, it was conceived and partially developed before Raiders came out. The success of Raiders just made the network realize there was a market for it, so they put it into production.

^^ It's on DVD, and just as good as it was.

Also, aside from being a period piece, it had more in common with Terry and the Pirates than Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The Lost City of the Monkey God, as referred to in the article above earlier in the thread. There's an interview with the author where he explains how he went on an expedition there to find the lost city. It's not fiction.

Here, I'll link it again, because I'm kind :)

Ah. So the answer is 'another book which I haven't read yet.' Got it.

I like Preston's work, especially his collaborations with Lincoln Child. Agent Pendergast and his adventures are a favorite series.
