Indiana Jones 5. It's official.

We know from the Young Indiana Jones Adventures that Old Indy at some point loses an eye. The opening could have some kind of recap of how that happens, leading into his telling a grandchild another adventure.

While Lucasfilm essentially decanonized the "Old Indy" framing devices for The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles twenty-five years ago when they reedited the series to remove them...

Bump. Is this still the most recent IJ5 thread? Well, apparently it’s still on and Phoebe Waller-Bridge has joined the cast https://twitter.com/indianajones/status/1380552440123060225?s=21

...if PWB is playing Old Indy's daughter from the Young Indy framing sequences, that would be awesome. :)

I would love if if Disney+ did a new Young Indy series and basically "completed" the original series. There were scripts in the drawer, so to speak, that would fill in the gaps between the existing episodes and outlines for a bunch more. I'd also love DVD sets of the broadcast episodes, not the Frankenstein chronological sets we have now.

I may hold strong opinions on this matter. :)

It doesn't have to be, at least in the general sense though. Ford's not getting any younger, and I think many had misgivings with the story they told in Crystal Skull, and I tend to feel the time-period felt off for an Indy movie. I feel the movies worked better when set earlier in the timeline, so setting the new movie with Ford as narrative device with a younger actor playing the active part I think is a great way to introduce the new actor and still give Ford something to do in a way that isn't jarring. It can be completely natural within the context of the storytelling. At the end, you could have Old Indy meeting back up with some of the characters from earlier on in his life that he's been narrating about.

I think you are probably right, i can see that being the premise. I just dont like the idea, i guess id just rather they left it or just do a clean reboot with a new actor.

Put Roger Moore at 57 next to Ford at 78 and you wouldn't think there is 21 years between them, plus the characters are different.

Ford looks every bit his age these days - he looks good for it but I don't think he would pass for anything less than 70. I don't think Moore looked any older than 57 in AVTAK either. Yes the characters are different but they are still required to do similar things - fighting and stunts etc.

Just think Daniel Craig isnt much younger than Moore was either.

Craig is starting to look a bit craggy also, but he has always been in phenomenal shape in his tenure as 007.

Although I can only imagine Ford playing Indy as he did Han where age is almost a comedic tool.

I thought last time was pushing it, I guess it's going to be less action more character based, at least for the ford indy character.

The last outing was absolutely pushing it, and I think Ford barely scraped through it credibly. That was nearly 13 years ago. I suppose it could work for it to be character-based, but is that really what this series is about?

Awesome, he's a great actor. They're well on their way to putting together another great cast.

Which is why you would relegate the action to the younger actor with Ford left to reminisce about old times. It's funny to me that everyone still insists the action has to be done by Ford himself when there are perfectly serviceable options going forward.

I have no problem recasting/rebooting if they really must continue the series. They kind of have to. Ford can't keep going forever.

I'm a member of a indy Facebook page and the number of people on there who still insist it's 'Ford or nothing' seems to be quite sizeable. I'm not one of those people, but I get the feeling they're gonna try Ford in the action role one more time in this next movie, and maybe he's still capable, he certainly seems to be in great shape for his age. I just don't see it working that's all. I'd rather let the series bow out or do a clean slate reboot. Yeah maybe Ford reminiscing on a porch in his slippers could be made to work, or even some sort of logan-esque type movie, but it will be a big departure from the series so far.

We will see. :bolian:

I'm not concerned at all about a 78 year old man playing an action hero. Stallone was certainly capable of playing Rambo at 72 and Scott Glenn (Stick on Daredevil) was kicking Matt Murdoch's ass at 78, so action heroes in their 70's do work. And Indy was never much of a fighter in his prime anyway. He mostly avoided fights and did a lot of running. Sure, the script is going to be written differently given that Ford is 78 instead of 38, but I have no doubt that he's capable of giving us some exciting action and fight scenes.

You are correct of course. If they get it to work and it does, then great. Despite my disliking of crystal skull I'll still watch it in the theatre.

So the year will be 1971 or thereabouts. What type of 1970s film series will the franchise affectionately morph into? Will they go for a spy story involving an object to be recovered?

Should they do the risky thing and recast Mutt so the movie can be just as much if not more about Henry III, who in this or later films goes on to inherit the franchise from Indy? Possibly even his alternate name when Ford retires, so that Indiana Jones never dies?

Or will they do the expected and pretend like Skull (though canon, of course) never happened, with Indy already off to somewhere having left Marion and Mutt behind for the Visual Guide to address in a note that turns into a fully canon tie-in novel?

Do we finally get to watch The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles on Blu-ray for their 30th anniversary next year, with the alternate option of viewing the episodes exactly as aired?

Would that mean that Indiana as Ford gets the eyepatch in this film already, thus cementing those segments now in limbo as actual parts of the continuity?
