Re: HEROES 3x01 "Second Coming" and 3x02 "Butterfly Effect" Discuss/Gr
Well, I didn't want to post immediately after the show because, like many people who did, I was on that "Heroes is back to season 1 greatness" high. But after three days of processing the episode in my head and sobering up, I've come to the conclusion that, while it was a definite improvement over season 2 (what isn't?), it still has a long way from being what it could be.
The Good: Finally! Real, remorseless villans. I hope they focus more on them than Sylar because it looks like they are on the way to defanging him.
Supers being...well..super. For the past two years whe had people talking about their abilites more than using them. In these two hours alone, we've seen people fly, display super strength, super speed, time travel, freeze powers, fire powers, teleportation, and wall climbing. I hope they keep that kind of momentum up. Not to the point that it's boring, but just enough to remind us. Which leads to my next good thing.
Incentive to use their powers. Let's face it, the villans who broke out of the Company became more organized in last half hour than the so called Heroes were able to do for the past two years. Heroes, Company, you have a common goal. Get organized and get after the Villans. No posturing.
I think I've outlined what I liked. Now for what I didn't.
The Bad.
Time Travel. ARRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHH! Does every season have to be about some impending doom in the future? I know it's an excuse for Hiro to use his abilities, but come on! Unless said impending doom actually plays out, this is getting to become laughably redundant. Who gives a flying flip about the future? There's a bunch of psychos with powers out there here and now. Priorities!
The not-so-secret secret formula. I know it's just a MacGuffin for Hiro and Ando to do yet another comedy relief laden buddy quest, but I'm sure I'm not the only one to figure out that, with Mohinder's breakthrough, that the "secret" formula is the means to give normal people super powers. Who has the other half? Why do they want it? WHO CARES? Remember? Psychotic supervillans running loose? Focus on the ones who do have the abilities and not on those who might!
Woe is me!! Yeah. It's not as bad as the last two years, but I wanted to put a boot in Claire's pretty little face every timne she whined about not feeling anything (I probably wouldn't feel guilty about it since she wouldn't feel it).
Well, that's pretty much my assement. I'll be tuning in due to some of the new plot twists. Just keep the Time Travel to a minimum and up the ante in the present with the new villans.
