Grade "Cogenitor"

I enjoyed the episode. It was a little slow at first, but what ultimately did it for me was the ending. One of the reasons I like Enterprise is that we get to see the implications of the crews' actions because of there being no Prime Directive. Enterprise, with how it takes place before all previous Trek, shows us the growth of Starfleet and ultimately the Federation. This episode is just another good story that gives us an understanding as to why the Prime Directive is so important.

First time I have watched Enterprise since like the Ferengi episode and laughed several times.
One...whoever wrote this episode has never taken entry level sociology. They used the term gender to mean sex, which was very annoying. Sex is your body, gender is the role you play. While the word gender had usage in the episode, they treated the word gender meaning sex.
Everyone is overrating this episode because of lackluster mindless Trek that has been offered before I think. Unfortantly, this episode tries to provide something but falls way short. I kept thinking "The Outcast" over and over and over. That TNG episode was just BAD with no sense of actual logic.
It was very predictable as others have said. The suicide I could see a mile away.

Interesting. I gave it a B+
When it first started I was expecting a sort of fun three gender farce/romp with a confised trip.. Sort of a Deana Troi mother episode and I was looking forward to having some fun. Then when i realized it was going to be one of those Moral dilema stories where we show them they are wrong I got pissed... but to my surprise, a great ending. I was really expecting the usual "we taught them about respect and equality episode" and they all go on their merry way. For once they got it right. Still, a B+ and not an A for some faults in the start of it.

I don't believe this is hypocrisy on Archer's part. He acknowledges that maybe he's set a bad example in the past and it seems possible he may change his future behavior based on this incident. If he goes back to his old ways we can criticize.
This is definitely "A" material compared to most of the other Enterprise episodes. It made me think what I would do in that situation, which is far more than most of these episodes have been capable of. Good sci-fi makes the reader think.

I've never really found them all that scary. Formidable, yeah. Scary no.
Back on topic I give the episode a B+. It would've been a B- but the ending elevated it. The first half had good stuff in it but I found it rather slow. The Reed scenes I liked but they were rather pointless, ditto Archer and the Visian captain. I'd have rather seen the focus on Trip and he cogenitor more so that contributed to my unethusiastic response to the earlier scenes.

It would seem so. You two must have watched something different from the rest of us, cuz we all saw an awesome ep that some are calling the best ENT has offered to date. Kidding aside, you are in the minority it would appear. Who knows, maybe you'll watch it again and love it and I'll hate it in re-runs...
E episodes don't hold up very well during repeat viewing (of course I say the same thing for V eps as well!)...
I'd rather watch "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" which not only had a moral message (no more forced than in "Cogenitor") but great dialog coming from Loki and Bele making these characters far more real than anything in "Cogenitor"...
I was also in the minority when "Darmok" aired... Fans were quick to praise this episode because it kicked off a season which fans were just begging to want to like... Put aside the unique metaphorical language angle of the story and the forced "message" and it's a pretty plain and routine outing...
C and that's only for Archer's speech at the end. The episode was tedious, with the usual ENT sexual sniggering. Trip's "mistake" was so obvious, so overdone and wasted too much of the episode. The relationships between the Captains was totally without interest or dynamism, and frankly Trip's questionings were rude and childish. When does he stop being a "good old boy" with that dopey look of wide-eyed amazement and start being an officer and a man?
A+ Best Enterprise episode since Shockwave.
A+. The + is because, as someone's already remarked, the suicide wasn't entirely predictable -- such believably personal, tragic kinds of behaviors are rare on Trek and previously nonexistent on "Enterprise".

I really wanted to hate the episode because it was written by the usual suspects (B&B), but I liked it. It was well acted the story was intesting and it didn't focus in the biology of the 3rd sex, or the act itself. I was a little let down by the ending. I wanted Trip in the Brig. I also thought that maybe Mayweather would have been a better choice to be angry about the cogenitor and the way it was treated. Let's hope Regeneration is as good

HOLY CRAP!!!!! Excellent drama for a change! And that ending- man! I read the spoilers and was still shocked. Yes, the "oppressed alien" stuff is over done, and Trip teaching the "it" to read...well, a little cutesy. But man oh man, an episode where things aren't okay in the end. Real consequences!!! And I loved seeing Reed getting a girl for a change...even if it was only implied. I was blown away by this episode. Nice to see Tomalok in action again.
F-- for the preview for this episode though...one of the most misleading previews EVER. They made it look like a hilarious sex romp, when the episode was truly tragic.

Great episode! Powerful consequences! I love the way Trip and Archer's relationship was tested, and the way Archer was furious and disappointed that Trip assumed Archer would do what he did. Trinneer was sincere and heartfelt trying to understand what he did to the Congenitor. And Scott Bakula, well his tone, stare and the look in his eyes as he stared out the window in the end. WOW!

The most pretentious Star Trek episode in years. Trip just acted stupid. "I am curious"
What kind of reason is that? Not for a moment were there actually any credible motivations behind it. He just kept asking questions because the plot demanded it
The two B-plots went nowhere. Archer flying off into the star was just to show off great effects but really served no purpose.
The relation between Reed and their security officer wasn't concluded at all. At the climax (no pun itended) it just stopped and wasn't picked up again
Archer had a weird mood swing in the scene where he discusses asylum for the cogenitor. First he chews out the Trip, then he spouts the same nonsense about having a right to fulfill its potential or whatever. Later he is back to being senible again
The scenes between him and Trip actually had pretty good dialogue, but it was ruined by Bakula's performance. Again he constantly walked around, turned away from Trip, faced walls and talked to himself. Who tells him to act that way?
I don't get what's so thoughtprovoking about this episode. It's overly clear who is right and who is wrong here
As already said the cogenitor stuff didn't make any sense. If they only make up 3% of the population, but are so important to the race's procreation they should be treated a lot better. Much better than the average citizens. They should be considers status symbols and not third class people

Dang!!! I am so PO'ed!!! Best 'Enterprise' episode in awhile (according to what I'm reading) and UPN 21 just HAS to broadcast a Dallas Mavericks game in lieu of 'Enterprise.'
Oh well, guess I'll just have to either try and catch it Saturday night or wait until summer re-runs. In case of the latter, let's just hope it doesn't conflict with a baseball game or something.
