Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

Okay I've done 2 minutes of actual research and it seems like you're right. Though that Enterprise bridge was built pretty damn sturdy for a set that was only going to appear in two episodes...

about connecting to Calypso.. was it confirmed that Calypso takes place in the Milky Way? If not, it could be conceivable that it’s set in the extremely far future after Discovery has colonized a different galaxy. If they wanted to, they could make it work

Possibly. That would be an interesting take on things.

making calypso fit into the show proper is a mistake, just let it be a nice short
Agree, I just hope the producers don't think thousands of fans are somehow 'expecting' of hoping for a follow-up to Calypso.... While I love Calypso, it no longer makes sense anymore; when we saw Zora's dreams in ...But To Connect, I think they should have shown a tiny bit of Calypso, so we could do away with it as a dream of Zora...

Loved the Ringworld they showed in the latest episode, though disappointingly they called it a Dyson Ring. I wish they had done a whole episode exploring it. It even seems to be a system of multiple rings.

Well they did mention that the destruction if 10C's planet happened around 1000 years ago - so roughly Archers's time - which also ties into Discovery waiting for almost 1000 years in Calypso. I wonder if the 10C are so desperate, that they are unwilling to stop the mining, hence Disco needing to time travel to stop the devastation from occurring in the first place. That would raise the question why a Civilization so advanced would need Disco to time travel. Something, something spore drive.

Calypso was set at an unspecified point 1000 years in the future not in the past. Hence why there were references to the V'draysh (which was confirmed to be the Federation) and their interest in ancient earth media.

My feeling is that calypso stemmed from an initial, different idea of how the Discovery crew was going to travel to the future and what that future held, (ie: a federation that hadn't been decimated by a disaster but one that had become expansionist and totalirarian.) But that idea obviously changed.

I think the closest we'll get to calypso is Zora. Discovery is firmly rooted in 32nd century now.

I am aware of that. Potentially the ship could be sent back 1000 years, do whatever needs to be done, and then sit out 1000 years to pick up the crew.

I do agree that it is likely that the original idea for Calypso was mothballed, but they may still try to shoehorn it in.

you could be right……. But I hope you are not……….! Calypso is not THAT relevant or interesting that it should be the culmination of an entire (great, so far!) season…….! But when ‘one thousand years ago’ was mentioned, I got worried……..!

As StarFleet Explorers & Scientists, it's a VERY stupid SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) to stick your hands in stuff you don't understand or breathe in atmosphere's you aren't familiar with.

That's just bad writing from a basic logic perspective.

This is why you always carry those flat disposable (tongue depressor / Popsicle Stick) like thin wooden sticks and have small air tight glass jars for sample collecting.

You need more than EV suits, you need full Isolation Suits that provide your own Oxygen / Air Supply.

Man, I want to watch this Trek that follows procedure and nothing bad happens.
So do I, I want them to be truly "Professional, Prepared, & Competent". Is that too much to ask?

Yes, bad stuff can still happen to them, but it shouldn't be due to their lack of:
- Professional Training
- Preparation for the mission they're about to partake
- Basic competency
