Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

Are you kidding me, they’re awesome…. The stuttering, the insecurity… it’s so incredibly real, reminds me of Woody Allen, and that’s high praise.. I love Blu’s acting, and just watch Forget Me Not again to see their range….
Agreed, they are above and beyond talented, and so brave and inspirational for coming out as non-binary irl, it helped me do the same.

Blu is a talented actor, but they have been done raw by the scripting this season.
Ian Alexander, on the other hand...

Don't quote me @Quinton unless I am correct, but I remember 90 mins was mentioned somewhere.

Following is a draft I wrote out earlier but forgot or put off putting up. I am still not sure how well it reflects my feelings but I'll add it anyway as a work in progress, subject to revision...

I am concluding I like both styles. DISC and PICD are different and how they play on screen should be to.

TNG wasn't TOS and that was one of the charms. Both were Star Trek, and so to both DISC and PICD are Star Trek.

The important this is both are entertaining and engaging despite their differences and both are in different ways. Imo.

.

I suppose I am quoting you, ha. I also saw 90, but only here in a post from @The Wormhole!

At this point, Zora might be my favourite character.

Jett Reno is criminally underused.

I miss Lorca and Georgiou. And Tilly.

Oh, and I wanted Kovich to be some evil Section 31 guy. (I didn't realize he's played by David Cronenberg!)

Is this show the most emo Trek we have?

I still hate the whispered dialogue. Terrible acting choices.

Well my opinion is that Blu Del Barrio and Ian Alexander are under avrage actors/actresses for Star Trek Franchise, really bad acting. Maybe I'm spoiled bcs I grew up on actors that embodied characters like Data, Picard, Riker, Worf, Bashir, Garak, Dukat, Damar, Sisko, Quark, Q, Tuvok, B'Ellana, Paris, O'Brien etc etc. After that this is really bad. But for Z generation that have never watched old Star Trek this might be amazing and respect and understand. But not for me.

Just how old do you think the people watching current Trek are? @Roald who mentioned he thinks their acting is fine has been a member here since1999, so I'm thinking he isn't Gen Z

There are certain members of the 90s Star Trek cast that you mention that I wouldn’t call great. Michael Dorn, for instance? Meh. But that’s just me, I suppose. I also am 42 years old and grew up with them. I do think Ian Alexander isn’t the greatest actor out there but he is acceptable. Blu Del Barrio, on the other hand, holds their own quite well. Again, just my opinion.

True, I’m a long time fan..! Even though I do feel Ian’s acting is ‘just fine’, Blu is brilliant. It is an acting style that is very opposite of what we were used to in TNG. It’s raw, unpolished, and leaves room for very human traits. I see so much of myself in them. Dwight Shultz and Mary Wiseman could do it too, I love it. All of this is very deliberate. It may be a matter of taste. Even though the hard criticism of Ian’s and Blu’s acting probably has little to do with their acting, which is kind of sad in itself in a forum of ST fans…..
