Yes, bad stuff can still happen to them, but it shouldn't be due to their lack of:
- Professional Training
- Preparation for the mission they're about to partake
- Basic competency

In Star Trek it's always a mixed bag. At best.

ETA: And before I get accused of defending bad Discovery decisions because Star Trek did it before let me be perfectly clear: Yes, I would love Trek to establish an internal consistency and stick with it. However, it has not, much to my disappointment. This is why I am far more forgiving of what is treated as "bad science" in Trek. Star Trek doesn't operate like the real world. It creates a verisimilitude based upon the basic supposition that entertainment trumps reality. So, if someone does something stupid, same expose themselves in an environment that has recently killed people or have safety protocols that don't work I am going to put up to Star Trek logic and not hold it against the entertainment.

Mileage will no doubt vary.

But wanting "Star Trek" to be better isn't unexpected and everybody should want their favorite shows to be better than what it has been.

Giving it a pass because it's been that way isn't good for setting new heights. It's keeping the bar low enough to allow the "Same-Ole Flaws" to pass by without thought or critique. That's just settling, and I don't think anyone of us wants to "Settle for mediocrity". Everyone of us fans, that means everybody who loves Star Trek, wants to see it improve.

Just like you want more emotional depth, complexity, deeper layers of psychology, & varied characterizations in Star Trek.

I want to see more basic competence out of every character who portrays their role/job.

I want better fundamental logic in the world building and how things function.

I want us to be more than just "Accepting it for as it is", I want us to expect more, demand more, expect higher levels of quality in our product / entertainment.

Are you kidding me, they’re awesome…. The stuttering, the insecurity… it’s so incredibly real, reminds me of Woody Allen, and that’s high praise.. I love Blu’s acting, and just watch Forget Me Not again to see their range….

Everyone else jump in! Say anything you want. Can be totally random. I'm not here to direct the flow of discussion. But. That having been said, I've ordered my projector and it's on its way.

I'll be ordering a DISCO T-shirt too. The first time ever (post-childhood anyway) product placement on a TV show has worked on me. It's very subtle, almost on a dog-whistle level because to most people it would be just a normal T-shirt. Disco's from the '70s, I'm from the end of the '70s, so it works: Star Trek or not.

Right on! My second DISCO shirt is on its way now, a replacement for the one I lost when I lost my apartment last year.
