Ellaria's fate was especially brutal but completely in line with what we ought to expect from Cersei. Olenna vs Jamie was delightful - I knew she'd get the last word in. I think her words about Cersei to Jamie offer an ominous prediction that will likely come true.

I wonder if the whirlwind of events will soften Jamie's opinion of Tyrion and whether that will influence a crucial decision down the line when I suspect they meet up again. Who else but Tyrion could bring Jamie back from the brink of Cersei?

Well, things are going south for Dany. She can't afford to muck around on Dragonstone for much longer - I'm glad Jon didn't bend the knee. But, Dany's going to need Jon now more than ever after both her fleets have been destroyed. Great tactical move by the Lannisters - they're not waiting around for Dany to attack and are firmly taking the fight to their enemies. I remember the S7 trailer with Dany's army and Drogon flying above thinking "how can the Lannisters withstand this"? Now I wonder if this force is a last ditch effort of a botched invasion.

Great episode. I knew Dany wouldn't just casually steamroll over Westeros but ... as many others have ... I underestimated the Lannisters.

I don't think the House Frey Is extinct. Walder had 22 trueborn sons, and plenty of grandsons and great grandsons. Only the adult male Freys were killed by Arya so there must be younger male Freys alive, but Arya certainly left House Frey in a shambles.

I admit that Cersei did take it up quite a few notches but I have very little sympathy for Ellaria who not only murdered an innocent girl but also was responsible for the murders of Doran and Trystane.

I don't think the House Frey Is extinct. Walder had 22 trueborn sons, and plenty of grandsons and great grandsons. Only the adult male Freys were killed by Arya so there must be younger male Freys alive, but Arya certainly left House Frey in a shambles.

A noble House is more than just a series of birthrights, it's an infrastructure. With all the major players wiped out, no one claimant is strong enough to take Walder's place, let alone command the loyalty of what's left of his people. And honestly, after what happened I doubt anyone is in a rush to claim the name of what must be thought of as a cursed House. A cursed House that was not well respected even before the Red Wedding and thus, few if any allies willing to support a claim.

More likely The Twins and it's lands will be swallowed up by some other house. Either way, for the foreseeable future, that house is effectively destroyed.

There was always going to be trouble when Walder died with the number of sons he had. I think if a similar thing happens to the family in the books then the Rosbys, Blackwoods etc might try to claim Riverrun for whatever male Frey child their family is connected too. However this won't be shown in the show and I think Edmure will just claim it for his son, if Edmure survives that is.

House Grey is also extinct, as is House Bolton, but I was focused on Great Houses.

There are still individuals out there with Baratheon and Martell blood (Gendry and the younger Sand Snakes), but they're bastards and have no legal claim to their birthnames under Westerosi law.

Sam should have at least earned his first (healing) link for his Maester's chain. Willing to bet, however, that the ageing manuscripts he's being asked to transcribe are likely considered "forbidden" and may contain some vital ancient clues about the white walkers and Night King.

Assuming you're referring to House Greyjoy? If so, then not quite. Yara is still alive (although perhaps not for much longer), and could still produce an heir if she survives. Theon is still alive but can't produce an heir, so they're not completely extinct as the other houses have become, but their candle is definitely flickering against a strong wind, of late.

Shockingly, I found myself agreeing with two of the main "bad guys" this week. The first, Cersei, with her revenge against Elaria Sand. Being a parent myself, if someone murdered my innocent child as a part of a greater political power play, woe be to them if I ever find them. So yeah, was definitely rooting for Cersei in this one. The second, when Euron was laughing about Theon being the "little twat" and running away from helping Yara, I thought, yep! Calling him a twat was one of the nicer things you could say about the spineless coward. Aside from having a brief moment of heroism and helping Sansa escape from the Boltons at Wintefell, Theon's existence has generally been quite detrimental to damn near anyone who's come within 10 feet of him. A thoroughly worthless and, quite possibly, irredeemable character.

I agree that Ellaria is unsympathetic and what Cersei did was unsurprising, but the cruelty of Cersei's action can't be understated. What she did to Ellaria and Tyene is revolting and it's something I wouldn't want to wish on anyone — even Cersei.

I imagine he was going to toast the victory, but Olenna quickly soured his mood.

What an episode. We got some of the best conversation scenes the show has ever done. Even Emilia Clarke got to show off her chops in this one. She gets some flak, but this was a great performance by her.

And I totally did not see the Lannister army taking over Highgarden. This war might be leaning more heavily toward Cersei's side than I thought. Dany's crew has suffered two major losses in their first two battles.

Euron... needs no dragons, magic, special swords or wolves. Just kicks ass and laughs in your general direction. He's the people's champion!

Honestly, I have to say I was disappointed. There was a lot of good stuff - everything with Daeny and Jon, the reunion with Tyrion, the interplay between them, and the tentative accord that was reached to mind dragonglass. Sam's scenes were great, and at least transcribing books is better than shoveling shit. Curious where Jorah will go from here; to Dragonstone I would assume, and perhaps then North with Jon to meet his niece?

But that ending... meh. Again, there was good stuff - specifically Olenna getting the last word. But man, it's all so rushed. Taking Casterly Rock deserved more than a five-minute montage. And relegating the entirety of the fall of Highgarden to a matte image and then five seconds of post-battle corpses was cheap. Even with Tarly turning traitor, House Tyrell deserved better. All that should have been it's own episode, and towards the end of the season; having the fall of Highgarden be a penultimate episode and the death of Olenna as well would have been a lot more satisfying.

I'm also already tired of Euron Greyjoy's magically teleporting Ironborn fleet; even with power of plot movement it's ridiculous to have him go from intercepting Yara on the way between Sunspear and King's Landing, sailing on to King's Landing to present his gifts to Cersei, and then making it all the way down around Dorne and catching up to Casterly Rock on the same day as the Unsullied get there.

I get that having the Lannisters score some victories against Daeny's alliance was going to happen, but it's feeling way too rushed and easy. We're 3 episodes in, and the end of Season 6 may as well not even have happened now.

ETA: Also, however unsympathetic Ellaria is... which is very... what Cersei is doing is absolutely monstrous and makes Ellaria sympathetic in comparison. There's no excusing her or calling it justice, though a poisoned kiss is obviously poetic. Unless something completely unexpected happens the entire Done plotline will leave a bad taste in my mouth since Oberyn's death.
