Game of Thrones season 2 anticipation - HBO shows footage

Have they carried HBO shows in the past? I can't recall seeing any HBO series on Netflix instant que the whole time I've had it.

I agree, she was fantastic. But they don't nominate kids for Emmys.
Fred Savage was nominated two times as a kid for the wonder years.

What I don't get is why so many people think arya's actress deserves a nomination more than the others? She's very good, but the reason she stands out is because her character appeals to modern views (wants to do the same things that men do, doesn't care about her highborn status etc.), not because the actress is more talented than her castmates.

To be honest, I don't even like Arya that much. People give Sansa shit, but she tries to be a good child and does what is expected from a girl in her position. That she likes dresses and wants to be a princess seems to annoy many people but why? A girl likes traditionally girly things? How dare she, a girl on tv is only good if she acts like a boy, or what? Sansa isn't perfect, but she follows the rules, Arya shits on the rules because her daddy is the lord of winterfell. If people take off their "Arya is awesome" goggles, they should realize that she's actually the most entitled and spoiled Stark child.

Not having read the novels (ok.. try not to faint or explode into outrage ;)) i can only judge by the show but Sansa comes off as a highnosed, entitled and arrogant highborn.. the typical cliché of aristocracy which stands in big contrast to Arya who seems more down to earth, friendly and non-judgemental and this is why people tend to gravitate more towards Arya.

I think the show lucked out though with their child actors since many (if not all) deliver such good performances and that's not easy to do with kids.. we as adults tend to notice good child actors over anything else because there aren't many and those who break out get cast left and right for all kinds of roles in that short amount of time where they're still young (and if lucky they make the transition into adult acting but that's rare).

Does anyone know why they don't have any kind of release date for GoT S1 on Netflix? [...] I know some kind of issue popped up between NF and HBO a few months ago, and I wasn't sure if that was going to prevent them from carrying future HBO stuff.
Are you referring to discs, or Watch Instantly? If the latter, don't expect it to happen; HBO won't license their material to Netflix. If discs, it might have to do with HBO ending discounted sales to Netflix, resulting in Netflix having to purchase HBO shows at retail prices to rent them out (this being the "issue" you referred to).

Discs. I'm trying to decide how long I want to give them before I just buy the damn thing. I just finished the book, and like I said in the ASOIAF thread, it totally blew me away, so at this point this is pretty much my #1 most anticipated show and/or movie, and I don't know how long I'll be able to walk past it on my way in to and out of work without buying it.
EDIT: As for streaming, HBO refuses to give them rights for their stuff.

I like Arya but the girl is a serious sociopath.
Which is exactly why I like her lol

Yes, Arya is actually quite a cliche stereotypical character. I think Martin himself realized this, so he made Sansa as naive as she is so that Arya would look better by comparison. Once it was assured that Arya was accepted, he could work on Sansa's character.
I can see this. I actually found that Sansa became much more interesting as time went on.

Sansa is written as a teenage girl. Teenagers in general are short-sighted, selfish and have a simplistic world view. We see similar behavior from Jon and Dany and other young people at times, though since things tend to go right for them more often than not it doesn't damage our opinion of the characters as much.

Re: GoT on Netflix, I received the first disc of Boardwalk Empire in the mail just a few days after the season 1 street date last month, so hopefully the same will hold true for GoT (although I'm definitely buying not renting it) ;)

Jon and Dany's characters are also helped from how they face truly silly opposition compared to the rest of the characters in the story and how they're treated as super-special folks by people they meet. Sansa however goes up against characters the readers really like, and no one really talks about how they like Sansa (Arya and Jon don't seem to like her at all).

Jon and Dany also had much more difficult lives than Sansa did which means they also matured much faster than she did.

Jon, Dany, and Arya learned how to take care of their problems with the sword. Sansa's only weapon / shield is her courtesy. She came to the capitol a naive girl whose head was filled with fairy tales about knights and princesses, and is very slowly realizing that real life is not at all like that. She too is doing her best to survive.

I don't think Jon had such a difficult life before the Wall, most of his "Wah-Wah, it's so bad being a bastard!" thing is all in his head rather than reality. And as far as the Wall, his time there has been pretty damn easy compared to most other men of the Night's Watch.

I just watched a bunch of the BTS stuff, including the half hour special, and I'm definitely leaning more in the buy direction than the rent direction. I'm finding it almost kinda scary how close they stayed to the book. I swear some of the scenes they show are almost exactly what I imagined while I was reading it.

Netflix is going to have it available the day it come out. Very happy now.
My hesitation to buy it had nothing to do with doubting it's quality, I just won't spend full price on anything I can get from Netflix.

I've still been meaning to re-watch season one but I just haven't had the time. I think GoT has the potential to be an excellent show but there are a few key issues that need to be addressed in season two and onward. That said, I'll be watching very carefully to see if Jaime Lannister's character redeems himself ...

WiC has posted an interview with Bryan Cogman, the show's designated "lore master." He wrote one episode in season one, one in season two, and was responsible for writing a great deal of the histories in the Complete Guide to Westeros that is on the season one release.

How long did the process of writing up all the histories and other info take?

BC:
Hmmm… I’d say a month, maybe? I was working on my Season 2 episode at the same time, so it’s hard to say. And there were a fair amount of revisions, etc… we were figuring out how to best make them work for the feature. There were a few that we saved for next season — the Greyjoy stuff, for instance. Also, originally, the histories were in third person, but Herzog & HBO decided that a few of them (the viewpoints on the rebellion, for example) would be more effective if they were in first person. I resisted the idea at first, but they were absolutely right.

Well this isn't a spoiler thread, but let's just say that, like most of the characters in this story, it depends on how you define "redemption". :D

And I haven't gotten a BR player yet, but this is one of the things I might get to have some on hand when I do. All I have now are avi versions. Part of me wants to wait for the whole-series collection...
