FOX: Sleepy Hollow - Season Discussion

I'm waiting for Enterprise is Great to post the bad Sleeply Hollow news like he did for Castle last week...

Ask and ye shall receive...season three premiere hits series low - http://tvline.com/2015/10/02/sleepy-hollow-season-3-ratings-premiere/

the move to a new night probably didn't help. Haven't checked in my PVR picked it up but I hadn't see in in the schedule to know it was returning.

Though I have to admit having it on Thursday night is better for me.

We did see much of her yet, but I liked what saw of sexy Betsy Ross. I really hope they eventually find a way to pull her into the present, because I could see her being a fun addition to the team, and it would give Ichabod a new person to share his confusion about the present with.
That would be cool, but difficult to pull off. Unlike Ichabod, Ross is a real person and we know where and when she died.
If they decide to bring her forward, I'm sure they'll find a way that works with history. I can think of several possibilities myself just sitting here.

Me, too. I said difficult, not impossible. But, as you say, the challenge is to make it consistent with known history.

They can always bring Betsy into the present and then eventually return her back to the past.
That would add another level of complication. Bringing her back as a ghost or reincarnating her would be better. Zombie Betsy Ross would certainly be interesting, too. :rommie:

It's a shame about the ratings because I thought that the season premier was a distinct improvement over most of last year. It was goofy fun and still great chemistry between the leads

This week's episode was a bit better than last week's, with more of the Crane-Abbie personal stuff that's at the heart of the show. I still find it a little cold how cavalier they're being about the brutal demonic murder of Abbie's FBI mentor, though. And it'll be awkward if they have to throw a Colonial-era flashback into every episode to justify Betsy Ross's inclusion. Hopefully they'll bring her to the present quickly. Weekly flashbacks are a bit too similar to Arrow.

Speaking of similarities, it struck me tonight: Pandora is basically a Power Rangers villain. She summons a different monster each week and sends them out one at a time from her evil headquarters to sow fear and chaos. Even the bit about gathering fear to power her magic and build toward some catastrophic goal is similar to the long-term plan of the villains in Power Rangers Samurai.

I had given up on this show after last season but reading this makes me want to jump back in!

I hadn't noticed this before, but doesn't Joe Corbin bear some resemblance to Mark Zuckerberg? ;)

Not a bad episode entirely, but there was nothing really special about Abbie's secret. Finding out her father was alive was not something shameful or regrettable to hide.

No, it isn't. However, placing him under (unofficial) surveillance and learning about him in the manner that she is currently using is borderline stalkerish. That may be what she is ashamed of.

I am cautiously optimistic about this season. The only element that isn't working for me at all is Betsy Ross. The actress is not strong enough to carry off the character they seem to want to present. And I want her to stay in the past. Part of the appeal of Crane's character is his isolation as a man out of time. He loses that when someone else from his time comes into the present.

Apparently the ratings increased 70% when they factored in the 3 bays later dvr and streaming viewings. If this can continue the new show runners may stand a chance at righting the ship after the fiasco of season 2.

Yes, I am cautiously optimistic right now.

I missed it last night since I'm not used to the new time... but if watching it on fox's website gets me included in the official numbers then maybe I should watch it online more often. :vulcan:

Fav line?

"If you are going to fit in that, you're going to have to lay off the flapjacks." :rommie:

I don't know what I liked more... Crane getting all territorial around Abbie, or her sending him home so she could chat with the new boss. :p

Wonder if the dude who stole the shard from Jennie is going to be a recurring villain or love interest. He's definitely more interesting than last year's artifact collecting competition.

I hope Corbin's son doesn't become Jenny's new love interest. Looking like Zuckerberg is not a draw in my book.

I like Betsy Ross, but I vote with the "Leave her in the past" crowd. It makes her more mysterious and Crane more singular.

Plus haven't we already learned the error of bringing an old love from Colonial times to 21st century Sleepy Hollow?

I agree. I like Betsy Ross, but I want her to stay in the past as part of the Revolutionary War flashbacks-- as long as it's not at the expense of seeing more of the Founding Fathers and other historical characters. I wonder if that woman that Crane was talking to about saving the archive will become his new love interest.

Speaking of which, I am very happy that they are making the preservation of the archive a sub-plot. It's the perfect message for this show to address.

So far the Pandora plotline is not terribly compelling, but the villains or the battle against evil were never the main draw for me, so I continue to love the show.

I'd rather she weren't in the show at all, but since she's a main-titles regular, that means they're going to have to include her in most or all of the episodes, and as I said, it would be awkward and contrived to have every present-day plot this season just happen to tie into some experience Crane had with Betsy in Colonial times in order to justify a flashback. So if she's going to be a regular, she needs to become part of the present-day plots to avoid that cumbersome contrivance.

I really enjoyed this one. We got lots of good Abbie and Crane stuff, a cool monster, and a nice little story for Jenny and Corbin. I hope we get more from Pandora than her just sending random monsters after them every week. She seems to have potential to be an interesting villain, but we haven't really gotten much from her yet.

They're obviously trying to replace Katrina with Besty Ross, but Katrina was a part of Crane's life for a while, I don't know how they just get around that. The wraith was interesting but yet again they're going with somebody that Crane knows in his past. And it's kind of funny for Crane to him a turncoat when he was one himself.

"Oh please. As if Adams would have done any different."

That was an interesting take on Jack the Ripper, focusing on a cursed weapon as the source of evil rather than having a monster of the week.

I'm liking Joe Corbin so far. He's definitely a better character than last year's Hawley. I can see Corbin and Jenny becoming intimate. No reference to Betsy Ross tonight.

They totally got that cop killed by sending him to grab a woman without telling him she is being stalked by an immortal psychopath :wtf:

Yeah, as soon as they send a before unseen cop and not one of the mains it was clear he was dead as a doornail.
