In another sense, it does not surprise me at all.

Trailer for new show drops. Normally at this time it’s good to break it down, frame by frame. Try to figure out what the show is gonna be like and so on.

Fandom fixates on one single frame of a list of names and spends thousands of words discussing who made what rank from all the old shows.

Never change, Star Trek fandom. Never change.

Demoted from what? The last time we saw him in PIC he was a captain.

I honestly thought he was an admiral by the time of Picard. But even with that in mind, it's interesting that he never made it to admiral.

He was retired in PIC1 Returned to active duty in PIC3.

Although if that turns out to be the case, one wonders what some of them are on the wall for exactly.
