No “Living Witness” closure coming

“Living Witness” just wasn’t a very good episode to begin with.

I feel like there's a limit to how much time any series should spend on resolving -- or even addressing at all -- threads from a past series.

All of Trek is littered with things that could be revisited. But there are also new stories to tell and new things to invent, and often that's going to be more satisfying than trying to take a bunch of old threads and tie them up with a neat little bow.

lol. No……she was the ship’s main engineer. 😂
In 3074, Quarren incorrectly identified B'Elanna Torres as chief transporter operator on USS Voyager, prompting the EMH backup module to clarify that she was in fact their chief engineer, adding that they might want to correct that error in their history books. (VOY: "Living Witness")

I think it makes sense to have an exception to this in a world where the show is already bringing back actors so much. If Robert Picardo was not reprising the same role from Voyager and thus the prior work, then I would agree that this is something that a show as low on run time as a modern streamer cannot consider. But he is there, and if the episode could have found a good b-plot to put with it or an interesting way to tie it into whatever the season arc would have been, and then it makes sense.

But yes, I do think there are probably better ways to build on this sense of personal history that a recurring character like that has.

Robert Picardo pitched an episode for SFA S3 that would have had him play both the regular EMH and a de-aged version of himself - the EMH from "Living Witness" (who presumably never has an ageing subroutine added)

It really sucks that something fans have been asking about since before the show made it's debut will never be addressed.:(
Aw man. I would have liked to see that...

Wished the "Doctor" from SA was already the one from Living Witness.

Oh. timeline wise, "Living Witness, the part where the Doc 'wakes up" happens AFTER the Burn is supposed to have happened. Burn 3069, Living Witness, 3074. then some time passes on planet before he decides to return, so He could have stayed there on planet until the future "Disco" timeline then decided to come "home" around the beginning of SA. So timeline meshes well if he comes back, then is asked to be a teacher at the SA, and we go from there. Could even have a plot where they find the "Old" Doctors mobile emitter from a crashed/destroyed ship, maybe it boomed during the Burn, or long ago.

Food for thought.

3074 give or take a decade so anywhere between 3064 and 3084

Plus, Roxann Dawson just gave birth to her child, which is why she wasn't in this or the previous episode, "UNFORGETTABLE".

I also echo the sentiment that the backup EMH is not a followup that's needed. The universe is vast, and the current era already revisits previous eras too much. Why make the universe feel even smaller when you can EXPAND it by telling new stories?

I honestly thought that version of the doctor would have been a more interesting one, but given how little they actually used the character anyway, it probably wouldn't have been a big difference.

Oh yes Distant Origin is top tier most certainly. Unity is pretty good too. Nemesis I'm somewhat indifferent towards personality.
I know my wife doesn't like "NEMESIS" for several reasons, one of them being the way the Vori speak.

That's one of the big reasons why I love that episode, funny enough. It served two purposes: first, it illustrated in a subtle way how despite the Universal Translator is working, it will still come up with synonyms for words that would replace normally used everyday words. Second, it was a way to linguistically track Chakotay's successful 'programming' of the propaganda he was subjected to.

Yes but, Robert Picardo playing two versions of the same character would be awesome.
