Episodes that are generally considered "bad" that you actually like

I'll cop to being genuinely spooked by "And the Children Shall Lead" when I was a kid.

I hated that one!
Still do!!
Probably THE ONE of the Handful that I simply Will NOT watch!!
The tall boy is Ugly and all of the kids are irritating and their wardrobes were hideous!!!
The entire story was just horrible!!!
Dead parents, On Star Trek???!!
That's episode 4 of the third season, oddly enough the next two were clunkers in my book as well:
E5 "Is there in Truth No beauty"
E6 "Spectre of the Gun."

Just before those three gems was one of my favorites, "The Paradise Syndrome."
And I LOVED "SPOCK'S BRAIN!"

Several have mentioned “The Royale” and it’s what popped immediately to my mind. Which is weird, because I generally have a low tolerance for the “Trek economizes with existing sets/costumes/props” episodes that all the series have in abundance (the gang visits the Wild West/fights the Nazis/teleports to the 1960s/etc). But for some reason, I find The Royale fun and very soothing to watch. It is a pleasantly nostalgic throwback to the truly weird scenarios and settings the early seasons had, and I just...like it.
"Baby needs a new pair of shoes".

The craps game looked like it was so much fun. Even though you knew Data cheated with the dice, every roll was still exciting.

"The Enterprise Incident" was awesome I think. It's an exciting espionage story, imo a bit like "James Bond" in the Star Trek franchise. I liked it a lot.

Really? I’ve never heard anyone say anything bad about it. Some of Shatner’s acting was over the top, but when was that not the case?

Shatner's OTP acting was never that much of a problem before the third season! The weird grimaces he pulls in Lights of Zetar being one of the scenes I feel he went over the top with!

"The 37's" :shifty:

Ronald Moore has labeled "Up The Long Ladder" one of TNG's worst episodes but its a highlight of season 2 for me. I think the idea of a society composed entirely of clones was intriguing, and the away teams's discovery of that fact, hightened by Ron Jones's creepy score, was one of TNG's more eerie and strange moments.

I also liked the happy ending where Picard solved the dilemma by integrating the Clones and the Irish colonists. Plus this episode begins with Worf and Pulaski bonding over tea. What's not to love?

I tend to like "Up the Long Ladder", though it hasn't aged too well. The Irish bits were pretty condescending, even for the time.

That's interesting, I had planned to start a thread exactly like this one myself.

Hell yeah! That was exactly the episode I had in mind for this. When first time I had seen it, knowing that it's not among the favorite episodes in general, I thought like "Why would it be considered that bad? What's so wrong about it?" And some weeks ago I rewatched it and must say I like it too. This may also be due to the fact that I somehow like the character Beverly Crusher a lot and damn, Gates McFadden is so great in this one.

Another "Guilty Pleasure" of mine I just rewatched: "Justice". Honestly, it's not that bad imo. I mean, I get why people can easily dislike it, I guess it's easy to focus on the weird costumes etc., but that's not the episode's point. Or rather, I think the presentation is by purpose so exaggerated, since the episode tells about a civilisation which seems to be perfect, flawless etc. from the outside, but seeing through this façade, there are lots of problems actually. What's more, the episode is a perfect example for Star Trek's humanistic message with speaking out against death penalty and so on. So yeah, the episode looks somehow weard and it's also not the most thrilling or action-packed ones, but I like it actually. Especially Picard is amazing in it, giving some memorable dialogues.

Okay, you guys have convinced me to give Sub Rosa another try. May God have mercy on my soul.

Not to mention, we finally get a promotion of polygamy in Star Trek.

I just liked it because I had a crush on Brenda Bakke. :adore:

I think "Justice" is a better episode than many people give it credit for. You just have to get around how incompetent Tasha was.

There's a fair amount of disdain for "Masks" out there...

I didn't think "Rules of Acquisition" was considered bad. It has the first mention of The Dominion, and I think it's one of the better Quark episodes. I always hoped Pel would show up again (and she does in a short story IIRC).

I've seen it mentioned a lot that people hated the Dosi and it is a little misogynistic even though that was the point and the overall arc of the Ferengi episodes.
