Classic episodes now considered "lame" - ?!

Absolutely agree with this except for Voyager. I can't exactly explain why—although I think it has to do with the care that VOY put into production design and set dressing, including the general look of the ship—but it does not look dated to me at all, whereas TNG and especially DS9 do.

Actually don’t agree with this at all. Compared to TNG, yes. But to me, Voyager has always looked particularly cheap and bargain basement compared to DS9 and its lavish, gigantic sets and superb production values. I know they basically had to inherit what they got from TNG and make the best of it, but it’s not an especially appealing show to me aesthetically. Too grey, too dull, very uninspired designs. I also never found the special effects nearly as good as DS9’s best, which is strange because I assume they were done by the same people.

I've been wasting a lot of time on other forums, Reddit for one, and there are a lot of younger fans. A lot of them consider the entire series "cringe." One even wondered how a show this bad could be the basis of a long running franchise.

I do wish more people would watch older TV shows and movies in context of their era, but there you go.

This is also why a lot of younger fans are all over the "remake TOS" thing that gets tossed around. For them it's a chance to enjoy characters from a show they consider too old to tolerate.
Well, they get plenty of the shit entertainment that suits their myopic and emotionally-stunted worldview.

Love or hate the Berman era, you cannot deny that there were a ton of talented production people in those days who took great pride at getting all the little details right. I think TNG, DS9, and Voyager all had great production values. (I know I'm in the minority, but to this day I love the bright lighting of TNG and the warm, inviting colors more than the darker approaches of DS9 and Voyager.)
It seems a little unfair to criticize DS9 for being darker, at least with regard to the station itself, when that was done by design.

Voyager, on the other hand...well, I haven't really heard any explanations for why they went with that particular design aesthetic, or why Our Heroes never could be bothered to make their erstwhile home feel more like a home.

How long was it gonna take to get home? I would definitely decorate my cabin to the limits of permission and how much stuff the replicator can make. Would replicating non-food be rationed when this far from provisioning sources? Maybe line the whole thing with shelves of my hobby creations and such, add programmable lighting, video and audio. "Room, run movie theater program 'Casablanca''. " and it takes on the ambiance of a theater and the replicator makes buttered popcorn and soda. (that humans consume exploded grains coated with unhealthy food and minerals for pleasure explains much - Tuvok) Program my cabin door to advertise 'movie' nights' or somesuch to crew walking by.

First a newsreel and a short

Tell Torres to do something with the corridors to make it look better, like lining the corridors with video screens that show nature vistas or something or like you're looking out a window at some snow as you walk (and your perspective stays correct as you move). Long empty corridor? A trail thru the forest with noises and EMH tech critters. Be imaginative. Rec room? Have 'beach' days, 'Paris by the Seine' days and so on. Tell Neelix to observe crew birthdays if okay. Mix it up. Giving everything the penitentiary ambiance of a 2025 McDonalds ain't gonna help your crew's mental health from being so separated from family, no leave to go visit them, and no new people to get to know - no matter how much Paxil EMH passes out.

...shite, I just realized Netflix is gonna own Casablanca. ugg "We'll always have DVDs."

I imagine hobbies would become very important on Voyager.
Can hear Janeway asking me why I needed 500 sugar cube sized working Rubik's Cube puzzles from the replicator. They're for my handmade door privacy curtain.

I wasn't criticizing DS9 and Voyager. I was saying that production values were very high for all the shows in the Berman era. And I absolutely love DS9's promenade and the Defiant sets. I also like Voyager's bridge. (Though it will never not bother me that the captain's chair is off center.) I was just saying that between the three, I personally like the overall look of TNG the best. I even prefer the TNG version of LCARS to the later revisions.

I agree with enough of this to give it a like—but did want to mention that Ops was DS9's best set. Unfortunately, they basically stopped using it around S4. The Defiant, however, was fantastic.
