DS9 on blu ray?

Yeah, maybe this comes with being a graphic designer. It's my very job to look for the “fly in the ointment”, so to speak, when it comes to typography. What they have done with the logo is sacrilegious to me, and I'm not even joking. It's all getting worse when you consider how easily they could have gotten it right.
I don't know, I consume most of my favorite entertainment in its original version, which is more often than not English. I understand how many people prefer to watch a series in their own language, but I feel that it's much more rewarding to watch/read/hear something in its original language; even if it's with subtitles.
In the case of The X-Files I do actually consider getting the blu-rays, as the picture quality is vastly superior to the DVD versions. But like DS9forever upthread I'm glad I waited out on those, as there are serious issues with season 8. Also, they totally fucked up everything that has to do with text cards, including the iconic X-Files logo itself, because they – and I'm not joking – “didn't know what the font was”.
Yes, I understand that watching in original language (mostly English) is preferable and this is what I usually do. Anyhow, I enjoy watching my favorite movies and series in other languages that I (have) learn(t). This gives it a special charm at the x-th repetition and I can somehow work my language skills. Maybe I am an exception, but different/various language tracks is for me an important buy criteria.

Licensing ("too expensive, these were cheaper") is probably the reason. The X-Files HD project was a low budget production.
Same here in Canada. That's why I prefer DVD's and Blu-Ray's over streaming. Not to mention the amount of compression on a screamed video is usually a lot higher than on a DVD or Blu-Ray.
Can't be too broken up about lay-bying the X-Files blurays before reading about the fonts. A combo of Boxing Day and box-set sales knocked over a hundred bucks off the price.
DS9 actually does get some decent airplay in Australia. For the last two years, Channel 10 has cycled through TNG, VOY and DS9 on Wednesday night, one of them tend to be on midday everyday, and their are usually triple episodes after the Friday movie.

As someone who hasn't yet gotten to watching DS9, would buying the set on DVD in any way help or hinder the chances that CBS remasters this show?
I'm thinking of just sticking with Netflix (is there much of a difference in picture quality?) instead of spending €95 on the DVDs.

At this point the decision's been made. CBS WON'T be remastering DS9 (or VOY) to Blu-Ray in the near term; and I doubt they're even still pressing any DS9 DVDs - so buying a DS9 set won't have any bearing at all.
I'd recommend checking it out on netflix first if you already have a subscription. That's what introduced me to the series, and I fell in love with it from there. Quality issues didn't really bother me. A lot of times I was watching it on an ipad or a smaller TV, so obviously the quality issues aren't as apparent with smaller resolution. Of course, it also depends on your internet connection.
Shalashaska, just don't give up on it too quickly, because it arguably takes a couple of seasons to find its footing. Be sure to stick with it knowing that it goes from typical '90s Trek formula (not that there's anything wrong with that), and basic growing pains of trying to find itself and actors trying to learn/develop their characters and relationships - and soon becomes a show of its own show - and it gets awesome (really awesome) - as the series goes. Because of that, the show has great rewatch value too. So maybe you'll enjoy it enough to purchase the DVDs. The earlier episodes have a lot more meaning after taking the initial journey. That sounds like something you can probably say about lots of shows, but it's especially true for this series IMO. Still, it's worth watching the complete series in order the first time because the character and arc development sprinkles in early on.
On the DVDs - I purchased them because I wanted to own them myself in case I ever dropped netflix for some reason, or if it wasn't available on netflix when I wanted to watch it. The DVDs have lots of nice extras, but the navigation on the DVDs is a pain in the butt, and in some cases don't work properly. I didn't even know about some of the extras until I ripped the DVDs (I ripped them for my personal Plex app). I've had a couple of DVDs that didn't play properly at all, but they ripped okay. The packaging is a nightmare. It "looks" cool, but it's flimsy and mine was falling apart when I purchased it. Others have mentioned similar problems, but some have said they've had their set for years with no problems. So take that how you will. If you do purchase the set, get it from a place that has a decent return policy.
I doubt purchasing the DVDs at this point will do anything to help encourage bluray production, but it's a nice thought.

I'm new here, so excuse me for asking, but why are people saying this?
Did a CBS exec or some sort of connection tell us they're not doing it, or are people just assuming it at this point? If the former, that'd be very deflating.

After watching these first two seasons of TNG, I know all about growing pains
Still enjoying it a lot though! Can't wait to get to season three, hopefully it'll live up to the hype

Interesting. When was that posted? It's disappointing, but anything's possible.
People are just assuming. There's been no official word, and there has not been enough time for CBS to get the remastered shows out all over. You have to remember that between when TOS-R aired "The Cage" in 2008 and the first announcement of TNG-R in 2011, we had to wait close to 40 months (and by the time the next level was released it was close to 45 months), and a number of the same people who were saying that there would be no TNG-R during that time, are now trying to press their views that there will be no DS9-R or Voyager-R. But TOS-R had also aired on TV in syndication before getting a DVD/HD-DVD and Blu-Ray had been released, whereas TNG-R was being released to Blu-Ray and download before being aired on TV.
Right now CBS is still working out licensing agreements for broadcast and figuring out their figures in regard to how much they have recouped, but they are also looking to see how much DS9-R and Voy-R will cost, but they haven't had the time needed to do it properly. And right now we are only sitting at 13 months since the last TNG Blu-Ray was released, which is far from the 45 months we were waiting for first TNG Blu-Ray.
And as for the sources that have been cited as saying CBS is not interested have been proven to be 3rd party sources who have done work for CBS, but are not employees or boardroom executives.
As for what is better, I would recommend the DVD's as they present a true 480i copy of the 480i masters, while the downloads are poorly de-interlaced 480p copies.

All on various stations at exactly the same time. They aren't the only showings or even the only episodes being broadcast toay.
As SD dies off, some sort of HD version would seem sensible...

That's not the case here in the US. DS9 hasn't aired here in over a decade - and even then it was overnights on a 2nd tier cable network.
