Discovery ending with Season 5

I don't. I've seen enough of it to piss me off for the rest of my life. "Trudging through" is no longer acceptable to me and treating trauma with a shrug and "that's life" just misses the mark. Not saying everyone needs to be stuck in managing trauma, but the "suck it up and deal with it" line is not something I find valuable. I prefer classic Stocism to imagined stoicism.

I'm not saying it's healthy, but it's relatable to many, along with an understandable and relatable character flaw.

Lots of people who deal with trauma (like soldiers in wartime) develop a dark, sarcastic, droll sense of humor. Frankly reading wartime stories leavened with gallows humor is a lot better than heart-to-hearts, because it provides the widest dramatic range.

I have a dark and sarcastic sense of humor...nowhere am I traumatized...interesting correlation. :vulcan:

I've been with my veteran uncle with other veterans and observed the range. I understand that, it's relatable and it's been the go to for too many years.

Apparently the Cast found out about Star Trek Discovery's Cancellation on the same day that the news was released by the Trades;

Definitely adding more fuel to the fire that this was not planned.

I'm still in season three, and this show just never took off for me. No really great episodes, just nothing to love. Not surprised that it is ending. I think it's 65 episodes is the least of any of the series. I wish it was better!

They didn't know for most of the season, because otherwise they wouldn't have waited this long to plan and shoot a new ending. The news coincides with the announcement a week before of fiscal belt-tightening.

It's also possible they had different plans, then changed them.

Im happy it's being given such an epic send-off. I can't wait for the fan events, I just might go to one.

It's not my favorite show, but certainly better than latter Berman Era Trek.

65 episodes is damn good these days. Discovery might be one of the last shows on streaming with 13+ episodes. You can't really compare this number to old fashioned TV, that's obvious isn't it?

I was informed earlier by another poster that it isn't obvious, but I dare say they said so out of stubborn refusal to drop an unnecessary and inaccurate 'attack point'.

Once the Discovery and Picard final seasons are released. How long will it take for the shows to go into syndication on comercial TV, such as H&I and Pluto TV if ever?
I'm sure, one way or another. They're going to try and get the most $ from them, low audience scores or not.
If that day ever comes. It would be nice to only then compare the ratings between all the various shows. Even if TOS has been aired since the late 60's.
Since Paramount owns/is running Pluto TV - If they go anywhere, 'free' it'll be there first.

And as for when? I'd say once the current 'new' Star Trek streaming run has concluded on P+.

Discovery will appear there first as it was the first to end; and if they do them on Pluto TV like they're doing TOS, TNG, DS9, and VOY - Right now all those series are streaming free (TNG & TOS) on the 'Star Trek' PlutoTV channel, (DS9 & VOY) on the 'More Star Trek' channel; and as of March 1 at least in the U.S., TOS S1 and TNG S1 are both available On Demand on PlutoTV for free.
^^^
And of course everything on PlutoTV either on one of their 'Live' channels or On Demand has commercials - and I've noticed more 'mainstream' commercials in the past few weeks, so it seems the free service is drawing advertisers who are paying Paramount.

I'm certain even 'Enterprise will appear their soon as well; but maybe they'll pair that with Discovery when it appears and do a 'Even More Star Trek' channel.

Oh, and they seem to have made it a habit to show the first episode of any new season of the current Star Trek streaming shows 1 week after they first stream on both the 'Star Trek' channel and the 'Paramount+ Picks' channel multiple times over a week.

Jonathan Frakes says it "sucks" and "don't hold your breath" for anything else in the 32nd century. Link.

Star Trek Picard is about to end on the grand total of 30.

I'm really going to miss all those folks bitching about a television show that they're not obliged to watch. Maybe they're going to move onto hating Quantum Leap whilst simultaneously not watching that either.

Thanks for everything guys and gals, I've really enjoyed how upset you've been for all these years.

As others have suggested, any further Trek shows from this point on will probably be nostalgia based and/or prequels and tied in with legacy characters (kind of what they’re doing with Star Wars on D+). It’s a shame, because I don’t think Trek will look forward for the foreseeable future, it’ll be looking back the way. With finances being the way they are, nobody will be wanting to take any creative risks whatsoever.

It's kind of amazing how successful Discovery is, it's comparable with TNG in its effect on its era: started off the whole new era to begin with and carving out a niche in streaming/supporting a whole platform the first few years; so far has 2 direct sequel shows, 2 others possibly coming(wow);
Short Treks spinoff-great series. First one since 1994 to be nominated for an Outstanding Series Emmy. Huge hit on Netflix. Actually gets to end on its own term with a party thrown by P+. Yippee. Did Enterprise get that? Anyone? Anyone?

No

The animated series had 22.
Other people would disagree.
Maybe for you, it is a surprise to others.
I'm just talking about the good old live action TV shows. Actually, I am a little bit surprised. But I guess it was just not making enough money, especially with Picard running at the same time, which I think is liked much more overall.
