Spoilers Did Picard finally ''right the ship'' with Picard season 3?

Not open for further replies.
Season 3 was written and started filming before Season 2 even aired, so it had nothing to do with fan reception.

Not buying that. I get that it was filmed right after. But either they showed it to a test audience or they saw how poorly season 1 was reviewed especially after they killed Picard off and replaced him with a robot. At any rate.....just like sending Discovery into the far off future. They are trying to right wrongs.

We shall see how season 3 finishes. So far I like it.

Not speaking for you. I know you thought it was great Trek...lol....
But pretty sure at this point the majority did NOT love it. There is a reason why the producers went the way they did for season 3....and it's definitely not due to fan love for season 1 and 2....
Was there a poll? I sure wasn't asked.
Eh, Season three was under development while season two was being filmed. That's why there was a switch in showrunners. Goldmans took over so Matalas could work on three. The seasons were shot back to back. So not sure if three could be a reaction to two.

I doubt COVID was the reason that Delancie got skunked on screen time....
What's really crazy is there's a great deleted scene on the Blu-ray from 205 or 206 where Q is waiting at the restaurant for Soong and talking with a waitress.

To each their own.
That's not how it works

So you've decided to make up thing us that fit the narrative you want and just ignore anything that doesn't . Classic. You should run for office.

Nope.

They couldn't have.

Oh BS. THE EXACT REASON DISCOVERY WAS SENT INTO THE FUTURE WAS to take off the canon shackles because they had screwed it up so badly at that point. This is fact. Anyone that doesn't think that has their heads in the clouds or haven't been paying attention the last few years to production comments....the reason they started to change the Klingons look in season 2 was because of fan backlash. How can people not see these things at this point?????

I think both seasons 2 and 3 are reactions to season 1. But Terry Matalas had (reasonably) free reign for season 3, while season 2 was still under Akiva Goldsman and had more studio/network interference.

I was still talking about Picard not Discovery.

Also if being in the 23rd century was an issue, they wouldn't have created Strange New Worlds.

There's no evidence for that second part.

No making up stuff is thinking they had this planned all along. They did not......Season 3 with the TNG crew is a direct result of poor reception to season 1 and 2.....

A lot of "good stuff" get left on the cutting room floor.

The time travel plot was Matalas. Goldsman was stuck with it.

"Norman. Coordinate."

That's a TOS reference, just in case it was lost on those of you who aren't actually fans of the show but are claiming to protect the sanctity of it.

That's the thing. They went and created SNW and did the EXACT same thing....on a smaller level??? Sure...but they still did it ..lol....but again like Picard season 3...Discovery going into the future was a direct result of reviews, fan backlash..whatever you want to call it....

Klingons have nothing to do with Picard. You are conflating two different issues now.

Indeed.

Reactions: Sci
I can see Seasons 2 and 3 being a reaction to Season 1, at least on the art department side. Dave Blass specifically said he tried to make the season 2 fleets diverse because of the reaction to the fleet in Season 1.

But Season 3 was not done in reaction to Season 2. Terry even said he had the idea for this story for years, even before he was showrunner.

Impossible for it to be a reaction to Season 2, it was written and mostly filmed before it aired.

Not impossible at all. Scripts can be quickly rewritten. Again TEST Audiences are a thing for tv shows as well. You don't think they just filmed all of season three, a day after season 2 wrapped.... do you????

He may have had an idea. But they said it how many times that they were not doing TNG redux???? And here we are....lmao...
