DC Cinematic Universe ( The James Gunn era)

In the past, most of the mergers we've had in the past few years probably would've been disallowed under antitrust laws. But we don't live in that world anymore.
The past few years were the Biden administration.

Consolidation has been going in for decades...

In case anyone wanted to stick to the subject, ran across this article which says that Gunn is making the DCOU projects really all about teams (or "squads ").

It makes sense, if they aren't going full MCU production wise, but want to have an entire DC universe on hand.

This allows the general audience to jump right in. And they can determine later by buzz if any individual needs special attention

Would another studio actually be allowed to buy WB? Wouldn't that be getting a little too close to a monopoly?

I'm OK with it if the company doesn't already own one of the other old Hollywood studios. That rules out Comcast who owns Universal, and Amazon who owns MGM. It's inevitable that all the old studios will eventually end up as subsidiaries. The only available companies I can think of are Netflix and the tech companies Apple, Google, and Microsoft.

I don't know about Netflix and Apple, they pretty much rival the major studios at this point.
Although Microsoft or Google wouldn't bother me, since they haven't really been involved in movie or TV production. I'm not as sure Microsoft, but I could see Google wanting to get into the entertainment industry, they do have their fingers in a lot of other industries at this point.

I thought I saw something about, "We're not interested in legacy media" from Netflix in the past week or two. Perhaps just a negotating tactic or "We're not truly interested, but if you are forcing our hand"?

The "that" news is old. The Netflix CEO recently said something along the lines of, "We don't want to buy Warner Bros. Discovery, but we're looking into it," but of course, it's a lie that they don't want to buy. So far, they don't just want to buy Discovery TV channels. They also want to buy the production companies, HBO and HBO Max.

On the one hand: Netflix will be showing the final episode of Stranger Things in theaters. The latest Knives Out movie and The Chronicles of Narnia will be showing in theaters for four weeks. I'm thinking, "Nothing would change if Netflix bought it. It would be nice." Then I see a few comments on Twitter. "I hope no one buys it," I say.
