The whole plot of Godzilla vs King Ghidorah was that in the future, Japan had grown into this technological/industrial superpower that rivals the US and most of the Western World, and the plan to remove Godzilla from the timeline and replace him with Ghidorah, so as to lay waste to Japan and stop them from becoming a superpower.
