Yeesh I forgot about the TNG Andorian. If you just look at the Star Trek and Shran pictures, they don't look like they've changed that much, at least not as much as the Klingons.

I don't recognize the Andorian from the movies. Was that Star Trek IV?
Yes the Andorian admiral is from TVH, the Ent Andorians are not far removed from Fred Philips redesign for TMP, I've always speculated that the ST IV variety could be a mix between the TMP and TOS versions, with TOS type antennae positioned closer to the TMP's location

Just curious, what didn't you like about it?
Once upon a time I would have been madly excited by the prospect of a new Trek show.I just cannot summon any enthusiasm for STD(),nothing to do with the show, the fault(?) lies in me.:(
Perhaps it's the realisation that the show I grew up loving so much now looks and feels a relic of it's time.

OMG - a "It's not you, it's me" Star Trek breakup

Yeah, not subtle at all. The Starfleet we see in that trailer evolving in one decade into that seen in 'The Man Trap' would take some mental acrobatics of the highest order. That's not a criticism, in fact I think this was the right way to go, but this is a prequel in name and perhaps theme only.
Nailed it.

Oh, IDK - Given how much Starfleet design aesthetics (bridge and interior refit ship interiors) changed from the end of TOS/TAS to ST:TMP (TMP was supposedly 2 years after the end of TOS/TAS) come on. If we're going by strict timeline here (10 years prior to the first TOS episode) - the events in TOS - "The Cage" happened two years prior to the start of ST: D)

And again, if the U.S.S. Kelvin exisits in the Prime Universe in the 2230ies - and the U.S.S. Shenzhou was designed in that era; that explains the Shenzhou bridge. ;)

As for the uniforms -- the color scheme and Starfleet Delta insignia are similar tom the 'Landing Party' outfits from "The Cage" - and again, if Staffleet can go from TOS Gold/Red/Blule to TMP 'Pajamas' to STII:TWoK Maroon in about 3 years is it there really a big mental leap needed here? ;)

Why can't they just make a clean re-boot of Star Trek instead of trying to tie it with the original..it would give them more freedom and a little less criticism( I SAID "LITTLE" OF COURSE FANS WILL STILL COMPLAIN).

Dunno why, but it seems to me that the Shenzou is NCC-122T not 7. Maybe its a transport of some kind? Also, Burnham suggests to hit the alien ship neck...wasn't that part of the theory of Shenzou and Klingon ship becoming one? And she could have said OWN command, but I thinkI've heard OLD command?(I know it diesn't make sense but still). Anyway.

Great production values, total preboot of the era aesthetics. Love the uniforms, Soniqua delivers her lines like Tuvok did, imo, so if you think he did a sloppy job, then sure, so does she. Also she's "universally appealing" beautified imo. It is clear that along with Sharma they'll prolly be major eye-candy of the series too, like T'Pol and Hoshi were for ENT(I'll enjoy that, though I know some like to see things otherwise).

She can't be the sole survivor of the ship if it gets destroyed. What about Saru? What about Nambue?(at least I thought Nambue is the guy with the side implants, though what a doctor's doing in the bridge I have no idea). Idea: I know they've said that Saru is a never before seen species, but...what if Saru is Mizarian? The make-up is vaguely close(excluding the color) to be re-imagined and could explain why Mizarians avoided war and were always conquered. Also why they were super intelligent(if they were custom-made and had advanced knowledge of death and what it means).

Seems like she creates with her actions the incident with the Klingons. Maybe Georgiou(not good acting for Yeoh, like she was sick at the time and it affected her, cause she performed well in her Bond, Crouching THD, and other movies)is looking to retire and intending her to be her successor but then she screws up with the Klingons and gets demoted or something dunno. I think it was said at some point that Georgiou is an admiral? Frain was good but not sure if Vulcan feel there. Too small sample to judge though.

Overall, If one disregards the previous materials it will probably be enjoyable.

Relics are exactly what DSC is not about, and why the purists are either angry or very confused.

About the acting: I have recently finished re-watching DS9 and I'm watching Voyager right now.
In DS9 in the first few episodes the acting is terrible in so many levels, especialy Nana Visitor and Avery Brooks, with those serious looks and acting, also Rene Auberjonois is very much out of place. And look what happens after: by the end of season 1 they have chemistry and acting is OK, and in season 2 everything is in place.
Voyager is the same: Kate Mulgrew is OKayish but Garrett Wand, Roxann Dawson and especially Robert Beltran are not natural and very forced, but the same effect: by the end of season 1 they are all OKayish and in season 2 there is a strong chemistry between all of them.
TNG had similar problems, the acting in Encounter at Farpoint is forced and unnatural. Watch that episode and than watch a later season episode and see the enormous difference.

We have to understand that TV shows aren't filmed as movies. They don't have 6-9 months to shoot a 90 minutes episode. They don't do 50 re-shoots until it feels right. They have 2-3 weeks maximum / episode and they have to do what they can in that time. So in case of a TV show you really need 4-5 episodes for them to begin to feel absolutely natural.

Couple of days later, i can consider a more calm opinion on the trailer.
Things I loved - the overall aesthetic, the production design quality, the spacesuit scene, what we have seen of Burnham and Georgiou, the Shenzhou design, the look of the tech, what we saw of Sarek, the Warp effect, the actual desert location for a desert planet. Overall favourite bit: the spacewalk. Stunning.

Things I was indifferent to: Klingons (look and generally their presence as villains. Meh to both.), the generic spliced audio (I was actually waiting in terror for a shield percentage...), the uniforms, Burnham's apparent personal connection to Sarek (bit small universe for my liking).

Things I didn't like: The weird death sensing power, the war/battle tones (I was hoping for a wonders of, well, discovery, theme).

Overall grade: A-

I liked it. The death-alien thing was cringeworthy, and the acting seemed clunky (probably more because of chunks of dialogue being pieced together) but it looked pretty slick.

*shrug* Not really interested in picking it to bits; I'll wait to judge it when I see the show properly.

Am I the only one who thought the alien who senses immanent death thing was really cool??
Most people did. Saru looks to be the breakout hit amongst the cast according to what I've seen online.

I'm guessing the "sense" is a sort of extra-perceptual one, not unlike Guinan sensing beyond normal linear time, as opposed to the normal danger avoidance of the average living being.
