Right, no change at all … :p

Yeesh I forgot about the TNG Andorian. If you just look at the Star Trek and Shran pictures, they don't look like they've changed that much, at least not as much as the Klingons.

I don't recognize the Andorian from the movies. Was that Star Trek IV?

Have we all forgotten about the Romulans? The Andorians? Or the Trill? Or the Borg?

The Trill is absolutely the worst of the lot! I have refused to watch any Star Trek ever since they completely threw mud in the face of canon when they decided to change the trill from Random Foreheaded Aliens to random leopard printed aliens!

But seriously though, I wasn't a huge fan of the Necro Zombie Borg. I like my Borg to be covered with talcum powder.

I choose to believe they're doing that on purpose.

Yeah, it looks like they're going for a GAME OF THRONES-esque unexpected shock-type thing (Killing Sean Bean, etc.), by killing off Michelle Yeoh and destroying the Shenzou, and having Burnham transferred to the new ship. The trailer's pull-quotes are crafted in such a way that "There Was Discovery" doesn't seem to be referring to a ship at all. Definitely seems like purposeful misdirection for the less-informationally-obsessive audience members...

I think my biggest complaint of the trailer would be the misdirect: They entirely only showed the Shenzou, not a single image, neither interious nor outside, of the Discovery.

You don't do that. Not showing the main center of action. Many a fans will be confused and think this would be the main setting. That's like if the first trailer for Trek09 only showed the Kelvin.

Apart from that it's a nice trailer.

I choose to believe they're doing that on purpose. I guess seeing the Discovery for the first time in the show will have a special kind of revelation with a special meaning to Michael Burnham.

Yeah, I'm with you, I'm pretty sure it's on purpose (or, maybe they might still be tweaking the cgi Discovery at this point). I still think it's not a good decision, even if it was intentional. In the end, it probably creates more confusion than a "spoiler" would turn people away.

So all in all, this trailer is probably more a "mood setting", than an actual preview for the main part of the show. Which seems like an odd decision for a trailer for said show.

However despite my criticism I have to say I like what I see. I like Star Trek. And this looks like Star Trek.

It's a teaser trailer. It's supposed to show just enough juice to get you hooked.
Hopefully it will be an ensemble; but Martin Green is clearly the lead here. And that's a good thing.
The cheesy fairground ride music will start playing, the lid of that sarcophagus will open up, and Armstrong will sit up in full Dracula mode shouting "Perhaps today was not a good day to die!"

You know it's gonna happen.
"Hmm. Shvartzes!!!"
"The Klingons look different" - Good! I was getting tired of an entire alien species that looked like a stockily-built character actor wearing an unconvincing rubber headpiece, false teeth, and a cheap black nylon wig.
Those hairpieces cost around $1,000 a pop, for the leads. I personally thought the DS9 style klingons could be menacing (if a bit cartoonish, fine). For a tv budget, DS9's aliens were pretty damn good.

My wife said it looks like a prequel to the Abramsverse. Complete with lens flares.

Me? Looks okay. Nothing really jumped out and grabbed me about it.
Everything jumped out at me. lol It's trek brought firmly into modern TV...the glossiest, most polished, most epic TV Trek in history.

The milieu: Starscapes galore, planets, Klingon interiors.

Lines: One of the first we hear is about exploration. Ahh

Sonequa's Green: Seems as if she has the weight of something on her shoulders here..we don't know quite what. Lots of gravitas.

Trek tech: Retro but future as many of us expected. Someone producing read the article about Trek not keeping up with tech. Awesome improvement. Robot on the bridge!

In short. CBS gave them a budget and they ran with it. Let's see if the stories match up! A big home run for All Access.

RAMA

As I pointed out up-thread, the "front window" viewscreen is technically established as canon in "Requiem for Methuselah". Kirk peeks in the "front window" of the miniaturized Enterprise to see the frozen bridge crew.
I'm not sure how that scene from TOS confirms a bridge window, though. Don't we assume the Enterprise has a camera aimed forward that usually captures the stars but now shows Kirk who stands in front of the minimized ship?

So I guess now we know where that contraption from the teaser trailer ended up. What could that chamber be?

Yay, new decontamination scenes to complain about!

I am excited. I grew up watching TNG and watched DS9 as a teenager and college student. Those two shows are in my top 5 of all time. I have been waiting for a Star Trek show like those for a long time. Hopefully Discovery can be that with some BSG in it too.
