Which only makes it more stupid to engage in this early-noughties-DVD-market region restrictions. Just stick it straight up on social media for all to see and party like it's 2017.
they don't do this for fun, regionalization is stupid, yes, but that's mostly due to laws and legal/business practices lagging behind to the current state of technology

The Netflix trailer really isn't as good as the CBS All-Access one. I'm glad I saw the CBS one first.
Yeah agreed. Netflix aren't great at trailers generally, they tend to be underwhelming. The CBS one might have fiddled with the actual footage a bit more but it packs more of a punch.

D'oh! Words have meanings.

Polticians and the advertising industry thank you for your credulity and for opening your wallet so eagerly. :D

The meaning of marketing neologisms is fluid. Who you gonna believe, tweeting executives or your lyin' eyes?

Ah . . . no. There's just one reboot in that sequence. It seems like you don't know the meaning of the word.

Yep, at least half are reboots to some degree or another.

I'd call Discovery a stealth reboot, except that it's right out there in the open. ;)

Yeah, not subtle at all. The Starfleet we see in that trailer evolving in one decade into that seen in 'The Man Trap' would take some mental acrobatics of the highest order. That's not a criticism, in fact I think this was the right way to go, but this is a prequel in name and perhaps theme only.

F.

Very simply:

-All the actors sounded stilted and unnatural & they were reading off scripted page;

- the asthetic is all wrong for pre- TOS.

- Changing the Klingons yet again is an unnecessary distraction

- lacks humor and warmth

-I can't buy for a second that this is within the Era of "The Man Trap" or "The Cage". It's just all wrong to go backwards- visually it just doesn't work.

-When characters say, "We're Starfleet- we don't shoot first"-- already it just sounds so tired - regardless of STAR TREK being off the air for a long time.

One Positive-Beautiful Visuals. I'm indifferent to seeing more & can't buy this as leading to TOS. Therefore: F.

I tend to avoid trailers because they usually show too many of the best scenes or are just gratuitous spoilers.

Lucasfilm has been doing a fine job so far of assembling proper teasers - just a taste with no spoilers. CBS has done the same here - nothing ruinous and a proper tease.

I like the look of the costumes, set , Doug Jones' alien character and that we'll be getting some spacesuit action:drool:.

I look forward to seeing this.

Oh, I understand why it's being done from a business standpoint, but it follows the letter of the law to the detriment of the fanbase and to the show's marketing. You want as many people as possible to see the first trailer and get interested, then they can figure out how to watch it.

The trailer is not "geo-restricted".

Netflix have it in all the regions were they are streaming the series. CBS have it in the regions they are streaming it.

That is (currently) every region that will be legally streaming it. Plus, the trailer is getting hosted on numerous Youtube channels for people residing in regions where Discovery has not yet found a home.

I'm not reading 34 pages of threads, so I'm guessing most of what I'm saying has been covered, but just in case....

If this show takes place 10 years before Kirk and Spock, then Spock is on the Enterprise with Pike. So the look and feel of this trailer is just all wrong. Plus, this was a time in the prime universe where different ships had different insignias. Why would Discovery have the Enterprise's insignia?

The look and feel felt wrong. It didn't have a Star Trek feel to it, and I didn't sense the optimism. If this truly is supposed to be a prequel to TOS, then the show should reflect the optimism of the original series and TNG. Star Trek is not supposed to be dark and gritty. It's supposed to be optimistic and positive.

That doesn't mean there won't be conflict and adventure, as TOS showed, but the show should be first about humanity at its finest.

Ultimately, while I would still watch this show under ordinary circumstances, I am not going to pay to watch it.

I agree, but also we haven't seen much else either. since this was just a trailer which probably only pulled from the pilot episode of the show. No Discovery, and no real reference to what everything else looks like. It's still very possible for other things to look very different. It's clear the show is pulling from some ENT styles with the uniform we currently see and the Shenzhou, but how about the rest of Starfleet? Sure we could presume everyone is using this new uniform but at the same time they could be in totally different attire. Shenzhou could easily be an older ship with a crew who hasn't updated their equipment yet. If Shenzhou is destroyed what happens if a year passes while Burnham recovers and things look different? Still lots to see ahead. Also other ships in the fleet including the Discovery could have more of a "TOS" aesthetic that is more reflective of what we see later ala more color, brighter, cleaner, and more streamlined looking. I'm curious to see what they bring to the table.

Nailed it.

Orville definitely looks better based >>>only on the trailers<<<.

Seems a bit humorless and bland to me. It's really hard for me to watch a trailer where they go OH NO KLINGONS and get excited.

Looks like the Discovery is not the main ship in the pilot?
