At least part of the map is the Big dipper.

Also netflix trailer, it is cut differently and doesn't seem to be colour corrected

That's... not as good as the CBS All-Access trailer.

A visual reboot.

"Reboot" implies a break in continuity. That is not the case here.

You can call it a reimagining, if you like - of course the show looks different. But the word "reboot" requires that continuity starts over, and that is not what we're dealing with.

The Shenzou looks neat. Looks like a much older ship with how her hull plating is colored, the undermounted bridge module, big oberservation window/screen, and to be honest she looks kinda small. Throwback to ENT style ships?

Yours sounds better.

what's the song they used?

BTW: right before the Captain says "What am I looking at?", there's a shot of the bridge's turbolift door with a dedication plaque. Anyone want to try and make out what it says?

There's a lot of speculation based on the look of the series being very similar to the movies, but that doesn't mean it's set in the Kelvin timeline. It's very similar to the Kelvin itself, which was (initally) part of the prime universe too. It's more to do with 21st Century aesthetics than 23rd Century narratives.
Thanks. Well, I guess it's unrealistic to expect a TV show made in 2017 to look like it was made before 1966. I like the look of the show so I am excited for it.

It's in 1080p. The American youtube version is 720p.

Looks like a TV version of the JJ movies. It does not look like the Prime Universe to me. But on its own, it looks pretty good albeit a bit "dark" in tone. It reminds me of Stargate Universe.

A new news article has been published at TrekToday:

The first video for the new Star Trek: Discovery television series has dropped, plus there will be even more episodes than previously...

Hey, I think the ship is upside down!
Yeah, there's definitely a shot in the trailer where the ship is upside down, as the bridge is on the underside.

All in all I love everything about the trailer. Bravo, CBS! The only thing still bugging me is the awful job someone did on the Discovery logo and font. I'm still holding out hope that the final show will have a better one.

Looks very interesting to me, especially with the conflict between the XO and the captain. Nice drama there.
