It's a good thing this sort of short-term thinking wasn't in charge for shows like Cheers, Seinfeld, etc.
Although Seinfeld originally received only a four-episode order . . ..

Why? It's been episodic for most of its "life". The longer arcs, like ENT Season 3, had a lot of filler.ST is a show best told in 22-26 episodes.
That was over a decade agoI agree but I'm amazed CBS even agreed to do a new ST show after Enterprise's crash and burn.
This show follows a different model though and isn't being produced by the broadcast division. With the exception of TNG, ST has never been a ratings success. I can understand CBS being wary.

That episode was produce in a different era with a different mindset. Neither season premiers nor season finales were events. Shades of Grey was made to save money, not to create a cliffhanger or special event. Most shows have "filler", but that doesn't mean so much. You'd think premieres and finales would always be good... NOT. Season 2 finale of TNG stands out. It was one of the most boring episodes of Trek I've ever seen. It was basically a clip show where nothing of any interest happened.
A full season is as long or short as the creators want. For this show 13 episodes is a full season. If you have the right writers and stories and characters then sometimes a full season leaves you wanting more.

I'm curious about these ideas, could you mention a few?I liked the new SW movie, but it's a shame they did not use Lucas's ideas
The previous series did okay rating wise, and the last couple of movies made money.I'm amazed CBS even agreed to do a new ST show after Enterprise's crash and burn
Similar to DS9's Red Squad, the new series should have a unit called "GAY SQUAD." They get all the tough assignments.I hope there's a bunch of scenes with hot hunks of meat just making out in the corridors
Enterprise always had better ratings than Batlestar Galactica. A lot of the cancelation had to do with studio politics. Season 4 of Enterprise was one of the top 5 ST TV show seasons in history.I agree but I'm amazed CBS even agreed to do a new ST show after Enterprise's crash and burn.
True, but Peter Noone is a hardcore fan.By the time Enterprise 3nded, noone was watching it.

Right. You can't say something like that without enumerating the ideas to support the contrast.I'm curious about these ideas, could you mention a few?

$2 million with inflation is worth more than double what it was 30 years ago.26 episodes x $2 million=$52 million
13 episodes x $5 million=65 million
These are going to be the best looking ST TV episodes ever.
