Is anyone here an Algerian or has met lots of Algerians? Cause I feel that the casting of Georges St-Pierre is whitewashing, but I don't know any real Algerians to get their take on it.

There's that French poster whose parents are Algerian-born. Mutenroshi, I think...

He looks pretty white to me... ;)

You're not given to leaping, are you?

I'm pretty sure there are Algerians of European/French descent, are there not?
I guess but from what I know of modern Middle East/Africa history, they don't number that many. I feel that the producers should have either cast a real Algerian as Batroc or say that Batroc was a French or a Canadian mercenary.
Algiers was a French colony for about a hundred years. Arabic is the official language, but French is still the main language of schools and government, and most of the country is bilingual.

It was a Department, not a colony, if I'm not mistaken (i.e., it was formally part of France).

I can't believe how universally positive the poll on this page is... this is a Star Trek internet board! You guys are supposed to hate everything!

But really, do the ratings ever scale that positive?

Well, as I pointed out earlier, we usually have a scale of F- to A+. Most Marvel movies tend to be overwhelmingly in B's and A's. I would give this one an A+ (with Avengers), but I could see some A's, A-'s, and even B+'s that could get the top category.

Oh come on, there would only be fourteen :p

Although I just checked and this format here was the same one as the one for Iron Man 3, so I withdraw my complaint, which was more about consistency than a preference one way or the other.

To me, Avengers is the greatest comic book movie ever. CA:TWS comes close, but I can't say the same for it.

My "Marvel Avengers Universe" grades...

Iron Man --- (B+)
The Incredible Hulk ---- (B)
Iron Man 2 --- (B)
Thor --- (B+)
Captain America: The First Avenger --- (B)
The Avengers --- (A)
Iron Man 3 --- (B+)
Thor: The Dark World (B)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier --- (B+)

Avengers > Cap 2 > Iron Man 3 > Thor 2 > Thor > Cap > Iron Man > Iron Man 2 > Hulk

The only ones that disappointed me were Iron Man 2 and Hulk but they were still good.

Yeah, I hate it when there's like twenty voting options. That's too much

Yeah me too, that's why I didn't use them ;).

I'd say I almost enjoyed this as much as Avengers, the only reason why I'd say Avengers still beats it is because it has all of them working together, but if you take the coolness of that away I think TWS can pretty much stand alongside it.

With most of the other films, even though I've enjoyed them there's always something major that I've been critical of, but with this and Avengers I can only think of little nitpicks.

What I love is that so far in Marvel movies the only bad guy that's really made an impact has been Loki. At least with Hydra there's scope for all manner of bad guys, and it also lends itself to comic book storytelling, because even with Loki there's a sense of 'how many times can they use him?' but with Hydra we get an ongoing threat that won't be dealt with easily.

^I agree with all of that.

Iron Man --- (B+)
The Incredible Hulk ---- (B)
Iron Man 2 --- (B)
Thor --- (B)
Captain America: The First Avenger --- (C)
The Avengers --- (A+)
Iron Man 3 --- (B-)
Thor: The Dark World (B-)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier --- (A-)

I think I'm:
Iron Man --- (A)
The Incredible Hulk ---- (B)
Iron Man 2 --- (B-)
Thor --- (B+)
Captain America: The First Avenger --- (A-)
The Avengers --- (A+)
Thor: The Dark World (B+)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier --- (A+)
Iron Man 3 --- (A-)

I went back and forth on the grade for Iron Man 2. It's somewhere between a B and a B-, but I figured B- is the more fair grade.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier Discussion Thread

Evans played wonderfully off all the main cast and apart from Crossbones I felt that all of the principles gave top-notch mega-movie performances.

Hugo - The path of the righteous man. Ezekiel 25:17

I did see Crossbones apperance in the movie. I was thinking that he should have been.

I never thought SHIELD was a good fit for Cap. I liked him better in the Grunwald days and would have liked to see the Serpent Society and Diamondback make an appearance. Or Flag Smasher and ULTIMATUM or Superia.

But I'm glad it wasn't a Dr. Nightshade turning Cap into a Werewolf movie.

Strange Jax and Alidar Jarok blocked Iron Man 3 from their memories (and their ratings posts).

I really envy those of you that went in completely unspoiled. Up until the movie started to be released around the world, the only real spoilers I had heard were HYDRA and Sitwell.

But, I am an Admin at the Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki (which differs from the Marvel Movie Wiki in that our wiki focuses exclusively on the continuity of the MCU), and after the movie was released and pages that needed to be patrolled started spoiling the movie... Well, I went into the theater pretty much knowing all the story beats.:scream:

It's been pretty fun otherwise.

Grading time? Alright then.

Iron Man --- A-
The Incredible Hulk --- D+
Iron Man 2 --- C-
Thor --- B-
Captain America: The First Avenger --- C-
The Avengers --- A+
Iron Man 3 --- C+
Thor: The Dark World --- B
Captain America: The Winter Soldier --- C+

Do note that I tend to grade harshly.

I'm not sure that I think of ULTIMATUM as a threat force that could hold one of the movies together. Not a stand-alone, anyway. Remembering that as Gruenwald's run in the Captain America comics continued, they ended up almost a front for the Red Skull. Right along with the Watchdogs, Secret Empire and (though von Strucker and the Skull might have cause to jointly object to such a characterization, seeing themselves as peers if not always allies) HYDRA.
