Spoilers Canon, Continuity, and Pike's Accident

"Philippa Georgiou Augustus Iaponius Centarius". Iaponous is a Latinization of the word "Japan".

Although that doesn't have to mean Hoshi, as such. Georgiou herself could be of Japanese descent. (Assuming, for example, her husband was Greek....)

Just because something LOOKS more advanced doesn't mean it actually is advanced. It's literally the Apple iphone store (which New Trek sets resemble) mentality--that gold plated iPhone doesn't mean jack if it's specs are inferior to the less glamorous looking android across the aisle. The gold plate looks cool though.

As far as Trek goes, those shiny bridge consoles showing all those specs make for easy tech reading for when the Romulans start hailing you on the viewscreen (we all know what Khan alone was able to do after reading some tech manuals). Having that nifty transparent bridge window suddenly becomes a liability if an unarmored Medusan happens to float by the saucer section of the Enterprise.

And new Trek's special effects have laughably bad results too sometimes. Those flamethrowers on Discovery that flame on at regular intervals (supposedly because parts of the ship are exploding) look just as bad and unrealistic if not worse than anything seen in TOS.

As if windows can't be controlled in some way? Filters, etc? It's absurd to assume a window is just a blank piece of glass like from a plain old building.

Khan was just bad op sec on Kirk's part.

Nothing will beat the rocks coming out of the consoles. Just...horrible. TOS could be ridiculous too.

They can do a lot, even reduce the screen to "TOS size" and black out the "VistaVIsion".

Khan was needs of the plot.

As an Android user, I can't help but agree. :D

I think we've discussed this in detail before, but the Star Trek VI bridge was arguably less advanced that the Star Trek V bridge. The latter had touchscreens, while the former reverted to switches and dials. Better-looking tech isn't always better for the mission.

SNW is also presenting tech that is less advanced than what we saw in DSC S1 and S2. Gone are the holograms and other power-hungry systems, as they just weren't working out. It happens.

Ah, but have you seen a Xenomorph on the bridge? It's a feature. 😉

we have to reserve the possibility that at this stage of the show, they fully intended the prime universe TOS Constitution-class starships to look like that!
I don't agree, it has things in common with some of Eaves's early concept art for the Connie. Like the side ways rear nacelle hood, and the dual prong deflector dish.

I think they took one of those designs and modified it.

Also the writer of the episode confirmed it was meant to be a modified Terran design.

I kinda wish they had managed to say so on screen (canonically). Do you have a link to that behind-the-scenes info, by the way?

Honestly, modifying it makes no sense, though. You have this gift from the heavens that is oodles more powerful than anything your enemies have, and you want to modify it, risk breaking it permanently? Not bright. Build more, and tweak the design then.

The Terrans are not known for their common sense.

I always thought the TOS aesthetic works. I like the simplicity, they just covered up most of the greeblies and what not with smooth surfaces. They just took a super minimalist approach to everything.

It's probably just in it's closed position. If it's anything like the Enterprise, it has a shutter that occasionally is used to cover the window.

They took creative liberties, since its for a game, but the bridge module omits anything window shaped like in the pictures.

I may have to disagree. In DISCO, you see Pike's future in engineering trying to save the cadets. You see a massive explosion that scars Pike's face on his right side and a blown off ear. It's pretty obvious that soon after massive amounts of Delta radiation will cripple, burn, and mutilate his body. Remember, there were other cadets in engineering that he saved before the last two cadets were killed and himself seriously injured.

It may be interesting to see from Pike's perspective how he handles in his mind what exactly happened to him and what he will endure with the surgeries and ultimately being kept alive in his life-support wheelchair.

Time will tell if the producers will take that route or do something completely different. Season 3 hasn't even begun yet. There are so many more stories to tell about Captain Pike and his voyages on the U.S.S. Enterprise.
