Spoilers Canon, Continuity, and Pike's Accident

Although I admit I'm curious as to what will happen to the ship when the crew complement inevitably doubles to 430. Maybe that's what gives us the TOS look.

Bunkbeds all round, and shove a couple of sofabeds in the officers mess. Sorted :P

I guess we'll have to see exactly how the show will end. It's anyone's guess how much they'll adhere to canon. Here we all are saying the crew size will more than double, but there's no reason to think they'll even acknowledge it.

Kirk: I need those extra walls now, Mister Scott! I have an additional 200 people to quarter!!!!!
Scott: I'm givin' it all I got Captain!!! I canna change the law of framing!

We actually have no idea how much the Empire was able to get from the Defiant. Hell, we don't even know if Hoshi's attempted coup was successful (for all we know, Imperial forces shot her out of the sky).

And I happen to agree with @HellRod, I find the TOS aesthetic extremely dated. I much prefer the Discoprise. I'm totally on board with it always having looked like that.

Didn't DSC S01 confirm the Defiant and some of the history? I don't remember, its been 6-7 years since I watched them.

IIRC, there was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo by the Defiant in DSC, but it was set prior to the ship vanishing into the spatial anomaly.

Meaning, DSC mentioned the Defiant as simply being on a routine patrol. The events of "The Tholian Web" (and IAMD) hadn't happened to it yet.

Weren't there mirror universe specs? Isn't that why they checked on Defiant prime?

No. As I said, it was just a quick cameo, shown on a readout screen. No detail was given as to what would eventually happen to the ship.

Edt: I just checked. The DSC episode was "Despite Yourself". The Defiant was said to be patrolliing Sector 006 in the midst of the Klingon war. Just a routine mission, nothing more. Way before "The Tholian Web" was due to occur.

There’s also reference to Defiant in the mirror universe episodes in season one.
The pit of my brain wants to say it was a schematic of Defiant Prime with the wrong struts, and i think i remember speculating that they upgraded it themselves before we knew about the discoprise.

I could be remembering poorly.

The Terrans were definitely modifying the Defiant over the years.

That's a reasonable supposition, that I would be willing to go along with. However, absent additional canon and/or behind-the-scenes information, it's just that, a supposition or an assumption, and, as distasteful as it may be (YMMV), we have to reserve the possibility that at this stage of the show, they fully intended the prime universe TOS Constitution-class starships to look like that!

Right. They won't change the look of the ship (except maybe some markings) and they won't mention the crew size. They have strayed so far from established canon at this point I don't know why people are even pondering this now. They will do whatever they want at this point.

One of Georgiou's titles is supposed to link her to Hoshi, according to the writers anyway.
I had no idea that this was in dispute. I'm not super in depth on either Disco or Enterprise and when I heard that line I immediately recognized it as an ENT callback.

I don't think anyone can know for sure what the future holds, but it's best to treat it as a 2020's remake of the events that happened between The Cage and TOS.

There will likely be retro visuals that somewhat undoes the nature of this visual reboot, but it can't stray too far from the path that has been laid.

I will make a prediction though...we'll see the TOS Enterprise again in 2026, in some form. It could be in this show, but it'll happen.

We did see a close representative of the TOS constitution class in Picard. So anything is possible. Some stuff I am fine with visual as updates. But some stuff they have gone to far with including story of course. But I just am treating it as something different. As you say a remake. Some things I will like or dislike it based on that. 😊

The New Jersey in PIC S3 shows that the design still has its place in Trek and hasn't been erased, or anything. I was very pleased to see it in all it's glory and it tied in nicely to the scene in Relics.

It's also made cameos in other shows like PRO and LDS, especially the former, as it had the interior too. Albeit in holographic form. So you can count on it making more appearances.
