California sucks!!!11

The San Francisco Giants have AT&T Park which is plenty fantastic.

Oops, can't believe I forgot that one! My dad's been there, he loved it. It sure seems fantastic, from what I've seen. A hell of a sight better than that shithole Candlestick Park!

Is there a BART station anywhere near AT&T Park? How easy is it to get there?

AT&T Park is South of Market (SOMA) on the bay. You can take BART into the city and either walk about 5 LONG blocks, or get on a street car that deposits you in front of the stadium. It is very easy to get to.

I spent three of the coldest hours of my life in Candlestick - and keep in mind that I live in the Midwest now! A Midwestern winter is plenty cold, but...there we were, in June, wearing our parkas, freezing our butts off, trying to eat our hotdogs before they froze to our frigid digits. I'd love to see the new park, but where I really want to go is Angel Stadium. Go Angels!

Yeah, California is awesome. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Okay, so I'm a state worker who might be getting some furloughs (which I really can't afford) and our legislature is about as dysfunctional as you can get, but we make up for it with the awesome fruit and beautiful scenery. Yosemite is the best! Except for the coastal redwoods...though Lake Tahoe is really beatiful as well...well gosh there's just too many hella awesome choices that I can't decide which one makes California the best state ever!

And not that most people would care about this, but I think that our history is really fricken' awesome too, from just about every angle.

And of course there's Disneyland, my happiest place on earth. Can't live without it. And San Francisco is such a nice city and so lovely.

In a choice between SoCal and NorCal, I'm sorry but I really have to go with NorCal here. Although SoCal has some nice beaches and Disneyland, NorCal is just way prettier. Though I also have to give a shout out to the Central Valley. Go produce!

I'm sure my happy rant has annoyed enough people now, so I'll stop.

California has many wonderful attributes and really is a special place to live. The variety of climate and culture in the state is astounding.

The cost of living here is atrocious though, and the people running the state suck hard at their jobs. I kinda don't want to stay for those reasons. I do like our deserts and mountains and beaches and fertile plains and (mostly) lovely cities very much, though.

Oy. If somebody who's been through Midwest winters (side note: I'm from Omaha. Where do you live now?) thinks the Stick was cold...it musta been.

The main problem I can see is the layout. The Stick just looks like an ugly piece of crap! The problem of course is that it's being used for football, which it was never originally meant for. (For those not in the know: Candlestick Park was built as a baseball-only park, for the SF Giants. Then when the 49ers moved in, it was expanded for football use, resulting in the ass-ugly configuration it now has.)

I hope the 49ers can get their new stadium built. They surely need it. Perhaps the Raiders can share a new stadium with them, just like the NY Jets/Giants out east. Why would they do this, you may ask? Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum is another ugly multipurpose monstrosity (especially after 'Mount Davis' was built).

Yeah, I'd love to see the Big A. As it is NOW, of course. Did you see the link I posted, about how ugly it looked when the Rams were playing there?

I just want to say to all of them that I just went to the beach. In winter. On a Tuesday. In shorts.

^_^
I can recall a number of years when Big Bear was still open for skiing as late as the 4th of July weekend. Pretty much anything you could want was within a few hours drive.

And it has the best university system (University of California)! :techman:

Raiders and 49ers sharing a stadium?! :wtf: No.

Why not? It's not like they're ever gonna play each other (different conferences and all). And as I said, the Jets and Giants have done just fine sharing a place. If they can do it, then these teams can too.

It just seems to make sense. Obviously both the 49ers and Raiders need new places to play. And since in today's economy, they're highly unlikely to get separate stadiums built, then *sharing* a stadium is the next best thing.

Plus everyone comes here. I love the diversity here! I love the fact that LA has a restaurant for every cuisine imaginable and I get to holla at girls from all walks of life. And I love the progressive bubble I exist in. I hate going home to CO and hearing gay jokes or complaining about Mexicans. Plus we have the hottest women in the country in Socal. Not just LA but SD and the OC too.

The fans would never buy it, and that includes this Raider fan.

If the team makes it sufficiently clear they need and want a new stadium, then the fans will come around. And the Raiders probably want a new place just as much as the 49ers are clamoring to get the hell out of the Stick. (I'm just guessing you've been to the Coliseum a few times. You really think that's a decent place to play? Why do you think the A's want out?)

BTW, don't call it that. ;)

Don't call what, what?

I live in Indiana now - and I like it here a lot, but I do miss mountains and deserts (I grew up in the Mojave Desert), except not in the summer. I never ever ever ever ever want to be that hot again. Ever.

The Stick was sooooooooo cooooooooold. It was situated in such a way that it caught all those sea "breezes," which were howling like a soul in torment the night I went there, and it was of course damp, and it was just not a good place to watch baseball. I suspect it wasn't a great place to play baseball, for that matter, but I can't speak of that from personal experience.

I actually went to the Big A both before the Rams played there and when they were playing there. Yeah, it was awful. I haven't been back since it was turned back into a baseball-only park - I usually don't go home in the summer due to the "never ever ever ever ever wanting to be that hot again" factor, but one of these days, I'm going to have to get home during the early season or late season. Baseball season, that is.

I just don't see it happening. And that wasn't meant for you, that was aimed at Barbados.

I actually love the Coliseum. Mostly because it's symmetrical. I know that doesn't seem like a big deal, but for some reason it is to me. I have watched baseball in non-symmetrical stadiums and it just felt weird. The whole game I felt like the angles were off, like something was amiss. I kept looking around me in dismay. No I am not kidding! It just wasn't feeling right.

I have the opposite view. Baseball is *supposed* to be played in quirky, asymmetrical parks. It's part of the charm. Ask any Red Sox fan... ;)
